Staff Distributed Systems Engineer – India Remote

Description

  • Design, build, and scale backend services and frontend interfaces for the Threads & Composer experience in HighLevel Conversations
  • Lead backend and API architecture, data flows, performance, reliability, throughput, and correctness at scale
  • Own the Vue 3 user interface layer from development through maintenance
  • Protect the architectural health of a billion-scale distributed system across failure modes, capacity constraints, consistency guarantees, and more than 50 deployments
  • Review critical-path designs and guide architecture decisions across teams
  • Find and resolve single points of failure, unbounded queues, missing idempotency, thundering-herd risks, and data-loss windows
  • Prototype high-risk architecture changes, address major incidents, and collaborate on complex cross-team defects
  • Increase system resilience with graceful degradation, backpressure, isolation boundaries, and capacity models designed for 10%+ monthly growth
  • Strengthen engineering practices through design reviews, post-mortems, and reusable technical patterns
  • Define safe practices for using AI-assisted engineering on critical systems
  • Develop with Node.js/TypeScript, Go, GKE, GCP Pub/Sub, Cloud Tasks, Redis, MongoDB, Firestore, ClickHouse, and Elasticsearch
  • Improve Workflows critical paths through clear ownership, capacity planning, tested failure scenarios, and fewer incidents

Requirements

  • At least 10 years of engineering experience with substantial hands-on ownership of large-scale distributed systems
  • Demonstrated sole responsibility for a production system through real-world failures
  • Deep expertise in queueing and asynchronous architectures, delivery semantics, ordering, backpressure, idempotency, and exactly-once or at-least-once delivery
  • Strong command of multiple SQL and NoSQL storage systems, consistency models, and indexing at scale
  • Expertise with Redis or a comparable in-memory system, including behavior under memory pressure and network partitions
  • Production experience operating Kubernetes at scale, including resource limits, autoscaling, and node-pool failures
  • Exceptional ability to communicate designs through documentation, diagrams, and root-cause analyses
  • Proficiency in Node.js and/or Go for prototyping proposals and delivering critical-path fixes
  • Comparable experience with hundreds of services or thousands of instances processing billions of daily events is strongly preferred
  • Experience with AI agents, GCP-native services, launching systems from 0 to 1, and hardening mature platforms is considered a bonus
