Senior Workers' Compensation Claims Specialist - San Diego Onsite

Handle complex workers’ compensation claims, including litigation, reserves, settlements, medical exposure, and injured-worker benefits. Provide strategic claim guidance while supporting fair, timely resolutions for ICW Group.

Description

  • Manage complex claim inventories using advanced technical judgment and strategic handling approaches
  • Communicate with policyholders, agents, attorneys, and witnesses while gathering facts and delivering responsive service
  • Investigate claims, assess exposure, consult experts, and recommend appropriate strategies
  • Pursue resolution through mediation, negotiation, denials, litigation, or settlement offers
  • Comply with applicable state and governing-entity requirements and internal claims procedures
  • Direct defense counsel during litigation and track related legal fees and expenses
  • Partner with cross-functional teams on projects and claims-process discussions
  • Identify process enhancements and recommend relevant industry practices
  • Maintain accurate claims-system information for regulatory reporting
  • Share expertise and mentor or train less experienced colleagues
  • Develop and present claim-status reports to internal and external stakeholders
  • Administer, manage, and approve injured-worker benefit payments within assigned authority
  • Establish and revise claim reserves according to company policies
  • Resolve claims fairly and equitably while delivering legally required benefits on time
  • Support specialty programs and strategic initiatives involving complex litigation, medical exposure, catastrophic injuries, fatalities, permanent total disability, and long-duration claims
  • Advise leadership on technical strategies for resolving complex claims
  • Advance complex and long-duration claim resolution through settlement, reserving, and medical-management strategies

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • At least 8–10 years of related claims-handling experience, including complex litigation, reserving, settlement strategy, and high-exposure claims
  • Workers’ compensation certification that meets required training, experience, and skill standards
  • WCCA and WCCP credentials preferred
  • State workers’ compensation license required in certain branches
  • Strong knowledge of applicable laws and jurisdictional limitations for claims management
  • Excellent verbal communication, time-management, organizational, and attention-to-detail skills
  • Capacity to learn and use new technology
  • Adaptability in a fast-paced, changing environment
  • Ability to interpret technical and legal materials
  • Ability to prepare reports and business correspondence
  • Ability to address inquiries or complaints from customers, claimants, and regulatory agencies
  • Ability to present information to management and clients in meetings
  • Practical problem-solving skills and comfort handling varied situations with limited standardization
  • Advanced expertise in workers’ compensation claims handling, reserving, litigation management, and resolution strategy
