Senior Substation Engineer, Grid (Remote - United States)

Lead high-voltage substation engineering and project delivery for Sargent & Lundy in a remote United States role. The position covers electrical design, troubleshooting, reporting, and coordination across project teams.

Description

  • Collaborate with engineers and designers on detailed electrical design and project management for high-voltage substation projects
  • Contribute to project planning, from early concepts through work scheduling and execution
  • Analyze, troubleshoot, and resolve a broad range of electrical engineering challenges
  • Produce concise technical and project reports that meet client expectations and S&L formatting standards
  • Build professional expertise through peer learning and knowledge exchange in S&L Communities of Practice
  • Travel to client locations when project needs require it

Requirements

  • A Bachelor of Science in Engineering is required
  • At least 7 years of experience designing medium-voltage power systems
  • Ability to prioritize assignments and manage multiple projects within budget and schedule constraints
  • Experience monitoring schedules and expenditures against project budgets, preparing status updates, and communicating with clients
  • Strong interpersonal and written communication abilities
  • Experience reviewing engineering design drawings prepared by other professionals
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications
  • U.S. work authorization is required; the employer does not sponsor U.S. work authorization
  • A Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering is preferred but not required
  • A degree from an ABET-accredited engineering program is preferred but not required
  • At least 3 years of experience designing substations rated 138 kV or higher is valued but not required
  • Experience preparing substation grounding, direct-stroke shielding, battery and charger sizing, and similar calculations is valued but not required
  • Experience with physical substation layout and protection and controls is valued but not required
  • Ability to work with designers on single-line, relaying and metering, DC schematic, plan and section, grounding, and related substation drawings is valued but not required
  • Familiarity with ANSI, IEEE, NEMA, and National Electrical Safety Code (ANSI-C2) standards is valued but not required
  • A Professional Engineer license is valued but not required
  • AutoCAD experience is valued but not required
  • Experience applying AI, automation, programming, or comparable technologies is valued where relevant but not required
