Senior AI Data Engineering Consultant – Microsoft Azure (Remote Romania)
Build Azure data platforms, pipelines, and AI solutions as a Senior AI Data Engineering Consultant at Wavestone. Advise clients on modern architectures, Retrieval-Augmented Generation, and cloud data strategy.
Description
- Build modern data platforms and engineering solutions, including pipelines, lakehouse architectures, semantic models, and data products
- Connect data engineering with AI engineering through RAG architectures, Conversational BI, AI-enabled data products, and LLM applications
- Create and integrate AI agents for pipeline development, data quality, automation, monitoring, and self-service analytics
- Deliver scalable data and AI solutions with Microsoft Azure, Microsoft Fabric, Databricks, Snowflake, and dbt
- Architect the full data lifecycle from source integration and transformation through governance, quality assurance, and consumption
- Guide clients on technology choices, target architectures, migration plans, platform modernization, and AI adoption in data strategies
- Lead workstreams or projects with practical execution, technical quality, and measurable business outcomes
- Share best practices, reusable assets, technical standards, and innovation initiatives across the Data & AI portfolio
Requirements
- Demonstrated professional experience in data engineering, cloud data platforms, or Data & AI consulting
- Experience in consulting, delivery, or project-based work is preferred
- Hands-on expertise building data pipelines, data models, lakehouse architectures, or cloud data warehouses
- Strong SQL and Python or PySpark skills
- Practical knowledge of ETL/ELT, APIs, data quality frameworks, CI/CD, and Infrastructure as Code
- Experience with Microsoft Fabric, Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse Analytics, Databricks, Snowflake, dbt, Power BI, and Microsoft Power Platform
- Understanding of how modern data platforms support AI, generative AI, and advanced analytics
- Experience with LLM applications, RAG, agentic AI, Azure AI Foundry, MLOps, or LLMOps is highly desirable
- Ability to connect business needs, data platform capabilities, AI use cases, and operational requirements through sound architecture
- Structured and pragmatic approach to work
- Strong communication and stakeholder management abilities
- German proficiency at a minimum C1 level
- English-language proficiency
- Willingness to travel to client sites when required
