FluidStack
FluidStack
FluidStack provides GPU supercomputing infrastructure for artificial intelligence labs and companies. Its managed cloud platform offers on-demand access to large-scale Nvidia GPU capacity for model training and inference, with deployment and operations support for clusters running technologies such as Kubernetes and Slurm. By managing the underlying hardware and infrastructure, FluidStack helps AI teams scale workloads while focusing on model development, performance, and operational efficiency.

Controls Engineer, Energy Management

Design control interfaces, operating sequences, and commissioning processes for FluidStack’s AI data centers. Translate electrical-system constraints into reliable software requirements and vendor specifications.

Description

  • Define control and data interfaces between facility energy controllers and third-party power plant controllers.
  • Specify system objects, fields, units, update rates, and stale-data behavior across boundaries.
  • Develop operating sequences for normal conditions, generation shortfalls, source transitions, blackstarts, emergency load shedding, and degraded operation.
  • Provide vendor point maps, interlocks, and constraint classifications.
  • Verify requirements through factory and site acceptance testing.
  • Convert electrical and generation constraints into software requirements.
  • Express software and data constraints in terms usable by plant vendors and engineers of record.
  • Validate interfaces in simulation before energization.
  • Test all constraint classes and mode transitions, then incorporate results into automated commissioning.
  • Develop controls for real-time load management, MEP and behind-the-meter integration, automated commissioning, and autonomous AI data-center deployment.

Requirements

  • Hands-on experience with machine-to-machine and system-to-system protocols such as MQTT, OPC UA, and REST APIs.
  • Ability to choose suitable communication protocols for specific applications.
  • Programming ability sufficient to prototype integrations, test point maps against live devices, and review software; Python or Go is preferred.
  • Ability to interpret one-line diagrams and panel schedules, including protection systems, breakers, power sources, and fault behavior.
  • Experience defining cross-system data contracts covering objects, fields, units, update rates, and stale-value handling.
  • Experience writing control narratives for multi-controller systems, including behavior when controllers disagree.
  • Strong working knowledge of both controls engineering and software development.
  • Experience converting electrical control requirements into implementable software requirements and assessing software designs for field use.
  • Experience using quantitative analysis to question vendor scope or internal assumptions.
  • U.S. work authorization is required.
  • Willingness to travel and relocate when requested during the application process.

Benefits

  • Equity is offered for all full-time roles.
  • Total compensation may include meaningful equity or restricted stock units.
  • Base-pay ranges and compensation discussions are transparent.
  • Adjusted compensation terms may be considered for exceptional candidates.
