Senior Lean Engineer I–II, Solar | Mortenson

Improve preconstruction and supply chain processes at Mortenson, a builder, developer, and renewable energy EPC. Lead Kaizen, data analysis, AI adoption, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Description

  • Lead Lean initiatives in Preconstruction and Supply Chain, working across Operations and project teams.
  • Review end-to-end workflows to uncover waste, delays, handoff issues, rework, and ways to improve flow, predictability, and value.
  • Run Kaizen sessions with cross-functional teams to find root causes and put lasting improvements in place.
  • Prepare and validate data, then share findings through clear metrics and dashboards.
  • Find ways to use technology and AI to simplify work, support decisions, automate repetitive tasks, and produce useful insights in line with company standards.
  • Create and maintain process maps, standard work, visual management tools, and operating systems.
  • Help implement and sustain improvements by assigning ownership, standardizing processes, planning adoption, and tracking results.
  • Work with project teams and stakeholders to address operational problems and improve business performance.
  • Use Lean methods, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement tools to strengthen safety, quality, productivity, and schedule performance.
  • Track improvement projects and measure progress against targets and performance indicators.
  • Encourage flow and pull-based methods, reduce batch sizes and work in progress, improve handoffs, and apply one-piece flow principles.
  • Coach colleagues in Lean practices and problem-solving.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and technical or field experience gained over multiple years.
  • Internship experience in construction or manufacturing.
  • Construction job-site experience is preferred.
  • Current driver’s license.
  • Sound knowledge of continuous improvement principles.
  • Dependable, with strong follow-through.
  • Able to train and facilitate effectively.
  • Able to influence others by building strong working relationships.
  • Proactive self-starter with a growth mindset.
  • Curious and optimistic.
  • Strong communication and active listening skills.
  • For Senior Lean Engineer II: at least five years of construction or manufacturing experience.
  • For Senior Lean Engineer II: at least two years in a full-time continuous improvement role in manufacturing or construction.
  • Must already be legally authorized to work in the United States without employment visa sponsorship.
