EXP is a Southern California 501(c)(3) nonprofit focused on education, career readiness, and collaboration between schools and industry. Its programs help high schools deliver career-based learning that connects classroom education with practical experience and future opportunities. During the 2022–2023 school year, EXP served more than 8,200 students across 13 Southern California high schools in five school districts, supported by over 400 industry volunteers, mentors, and internship hosts. The organization works with educators and employers to expand students’ access to education, experience, and career pathways.

Senior Education Architect - Halifax Hybrid

Lead K-12 and post-secondary architecture projects at EXP, guiding educational programming, multidisciplinary design, and project delivery. Help create inclusive, sustainable learning environments across Atlantic Canada.

Description

  • Direct K-12 and post-secondary projects from initial programming and concept development through construction and closeout
  • Partner with clients and user groups to establish educational, functional, operational, and facility needs
  • Facilitate or contribute to programming workshops, stakeholder consultations, visioning sessions, presentations, and option assessments
  • Convert teaching, learning, student services, administration, community use, and facility needs into integrated architectural designs
  • Develop project work plans and coordinate architects, interns, technologists, engineers, landscape architects, specialty consultants, and cost consultants
  • Oversee the development and coordination of design documents, Revit models, specifications, reports, presentations, and construction documentation
  • Conduct interdisciplinary design and technical reviews
  • Embed accessibility, universal design, sustainability, resilience, energy efficiency, durability, security, and student well-being in planning and design
  • Assist project teams through procurement and construction, including tender inquiries, addenda, submittals, RFIs, site reviews, change management, deficiency assessments, and closeout
  • Build lasting client relationships and communicate clearly with technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Coach and mentor architects, interns, designers, and technologists
  • Help advance education-sector standards, tools, research, lessons learned, proposals, interviews, pursuits, and client presentations
  • Travel to project sites and client meetings across Nova Scotia and New Brunswick as needed

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in architecture from an accredited institution
  • Licensed architect with at least 10 years of progressively responsible experience
  • Eligibility for registration with the Nova Scotia Association of Architects
  • Proven leadership of K-12, college, university, or similarly complex institutional projects across multiple delivery phases
  • Background in educational programming, stakeholder engagement, architectural planning, design development, construction documentation, and construction-phase services
  • Experience directing multidisciplinary consultant teams and coordinating complex technical and operational needs
  • Experience with both new-build and renovation or renewal projects is preferred
  • Knowledge of Canadian building codes, accessibility standards, construction systems, procurement procedures, and contract administration
  • Understanding of inclusive learning environments, sustainability, resilience, adaptability, and long-term facility performance
  • Proficiency in Revit and familiarity with current architectural documentation, coordination, and presentation tools
  • Strong facilitation, presentation, technical writing, organizational, and client-service abilities
  • Ability to balance competing priorities, give clear design and technical direction, mentor developing staff, and collaborate across multiple offices
  • Public-sector education project experience in Nova Scotia or Atlantic Canada is an asset
  • Proposal development, project interview, and education-sector business development experience is an asset
