Associate or Senior Editor, BMC Psychology

Shape BMC Psychology’s journal strategy, content, and peer-review standards at Springer Nature. Build editorial board relationships and support the journal’s open-access publishing program.

Description

  • Shape BMC Psychology’s development strategy in line with journal performance, development needs, and the wider BMC series.
  • Contribute subject-specific strategy across Springer Nature’s Journals group.
  • Commission reviews, collections, and supplements, working with the scientific community to bring them to fruition.
  • Oversee content handling, advise editorial board members, and manage submissions when needed.
  • Investigate and resolve publishing and research ethics cases, consulting Springer Nature’s Research Integrity Group as needed.
  • Work across teams to resolve editorial issues, prioritize author service, and uphold editorial standards.
  • Advise on editorial policy.
  • Build relationships with editorial board members and authors.
  • Discuss journal policy, content, and board recruitment with senior board members.
  • Recruit and train editorial board members.
  • Support initiatives that engage the editorial board.
  • Host regular senior board and editorial board meetings, in person or online.
  • Ensure board members understand the journal’s ethos, editorial policies, and required training.
  • Create content and features for the journal website.
  • Promote the journals and build relevant contacts at conferences.
  • Raise journal visibility through blogs and social media.
  • Support colleagues, provide cover when needed, and share expertise and experience.

Requirements

  • PhD or equivalent in psychology, mental health, or a related field.
  • Interest in open-access publishing.
  • Interest in scientific research and current knowledge of a relevant field.
  • Knowledge of editorial processes and related matters.
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills.
  • Strong customer focus.
  • Strong analytical and critical appraisal skills.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally and represent BMC at external events.
  • Ability to respond to non-routine situations.
  • Excellent time management and prioritization, with the ability to balance short-term deadlines and long-term goals.
  • Self-motivated, positive approach to problem-solving.
  • Adaptability to changing circumstances.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with colleagues at all levels.
  • Ability to work as part of a team.
  • Editorial experience for the Senior Editor role.
