Senior Data Engineer — Remote, United States

Lead the architecture and operation of Benepass’s data platform, including pipelines, governed analytics, data quality, and AWS infrastructure. Build scalable systems that support secure reporting and data-driven product development.

Description

  • Lead the design and delivery of the data platform across the warehouse, replication, orchestration, transformation, and semantic layers
  • Build dependable pipelines from Aurora/RDS and application databases into the warehouse while addressing PII, multi-tenancy, and data residency requirements
  • Operate orchestration and scheduling systems with recovery mechanisms and observability
  • Improve query performance and control costs through query design, materialization, incremental models, partitioning, and warehouse optimization
  • Develop data quality controls, automated tests, validation processes, lineage, documentation, and metadata
  • Establish data models, slowly changing dimensions, tenant access controls, and row-level security approaches
  • Work with Engineering to define source data contracts, close instrumentation gaps, and manage schema changes
  • Create dbt staging-to-mart models and Cube models and measures for governed BI and product reporting
  • Configure Cube row-level security and improve query performance through pre-aggregations, caching, and materialized views
  • Help analysts and data scientists extend models, write safe queries, and produce reports
  • Collaborate with Product, Engineering, Customer Operations, GTM, Sales, Finance, analysts, and data scientists on data initiatives
  • Manage monitoring, alerting, incident response, post-mortems, deployment processes, testing frameworks, refresh triggers, and observability
  • Keep runbooks and onboarding documentation current
  • Guide the data platform roadmap and assess real-time, streaming, CDC, catalog, and BI capabilities
  • Ensure data infrastructure follows AWS, Kubernetes, infrastructure, and security practices
  • Participate in company-wide onsite events three times each year

Requirements

  • At least five years of data engineering experience, with increasing responsibility for platform architecture, data pipelines, and data quality
  • Strong SQL and Python skills, including experience delivering production data pipelines on modern data stacks
  • Practical experience with data warehouses such as Redshift, Snowflake, or BigQuery and with dbt
  • Experience building and operating data replication pipelines using CDC, DMS, Airbyte, Fivetran, or comparable tools
  • Strong knowledge of dimensional modeling, data grain, slowly changing dimensions, and data quality practices
  • Experience with semantic layers or metrics platforms such as Cube, LookML, or MetricFlow, plus governed BI metrics
  • Familiarity with AWS data services including RDS, S3, Redshift, DMS, and Lambda, along with infrastructure as code; Terraform is preferred
  • Experience handling PII, multi-tenant data, row-level security, and compliance requirements in regulated industries
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills
