Software Development Engineer III, AI Agentic Systems

Build AI agent workflows, cloud infrastructure, and resilient services at WEX. Lead architecture, delivery pipelines, incident response, and engineering mentorship.

Description

  • Design and deploy multi-agent workflows using AWS Agent Core
  • Lead internal AI training and coaching
  • Work with external AI partners to identify agentic system opportunities
  • Design, build, and own end-to-end services and cross-platform integrations
  • Set data orchestration strategies and guide architectural trade-offs
  • Build secure, resilient, testable, and maintainable systems
  • Design dependable, cost-conscious cloud infrastructure and failover approaches
  • Own automated deployment packages and metadata frameworks across sandbox tiers
  • Develop and improve CI/CD pipelines
  • Diagnose complex defects and fix their underlying causes
  • Lead service incident response during outages
  • Prepare triage runbooks and playbooks for Tier 1 and Tier 2 helpdesk teams and junior analysts
  • Own non-functional requirements with Product Managers
  • Set backlog priorities and negotiate scope, technical debt, and refactoring work
  • Provide constructive code reviews and mentor SDE 1 and SDE 2 engineers
  • Guide data-informed engineering discussions and lead knowledge-sharing sessions

Requirements

  • Provide senior technical leadership in designing full services and resolving complex integration challenges
  • Have experience designing and deploying multi-agent workflows with AWS Agent Core
  • Understand state management, persistent memory, and complex tool interactions
  • Have experience with AI-powered software and agentic integrations, including Google Gemini, AWS Agent Core, and Claude
  • Be able to own services and cross-platform integrations from design through delivery
  • Make data orchestration trade-offs, including MCP versus API and agents versus skills
  • Have experience implementing retries, circuit breakers, and fallback mechanisms
  • Understand security vulnerabilities and authentication standards such as OAuth scopes
  • Have experience designing reliable cloud infrastructure, including auto-scaling groups and failover strategies
  • Have experience with automated deployment packages, metadata frameworks, scripts, and automation manifests
  • Have experience optimizing CI/CD pipelines
  • Be able to diagnose intermittent issues, race conditions, memory leaks, and other complex defects
  • Be able to lead incident response and create triage runbooks and playbooks
  • Be able to own non-functional requirements covering performance, security, and scalability
  • Be able to negotiate technical debt, refactoring, and the balance between essential and optional work
  • Bring strong code review, mentoring, consensus-building, continuous learning, and context-switching skills
