Senior Data Engineer – Berlin Hybrid

Lead the development of Glimmer’s modern health-data warehouse and insurance data pipelines. Help power a digital health platform serving pregnancy, birth, and early parenthood.

Description

  • Assess the existing data ecosystem across legacy platforms, acquired sources, pipelines, and dependencies
  • Define and communicate the target architecture and roadmap for migration
  • Build and maintain scalable ETL and ELT pipelines with SQL, Python, and PostgreSQL
  • Manage and continuously improve AWS data infrastructure, especially EC2 and RDS
  • Develop the automated insurance invoicing pipeline for reimbursements, claim tracking, and financial data
  • Create ingestion pipelines for product, web, CRM, and advertising systems including Amplitude, Meta, Google Ads, and HubSpot
  • Build and maintain REST API connections to internal systems, external tools, and SaaS platforms
  • Create warehouse schemas and data models supporting reporting, product analytics, experimentation, and regulatory needs
  • Establish data quality controls, automated tests, monitoring, and alerting
  • Automate and coordinate workflows using version control, CI/CD, code reviews, and thorough documentation
  • Handle health data in accordance with GDPR through access controls, pseudonymisation, and retention policies
  • Partner with Marketing, Product, and Finance to provide datasets for tools such as AWS QuickSight
  • Support team development by sharing expertise in data practices, tools, and concepts
  • Move critical sources to the warehouse, retire obsolete pipelines and tools, and make the warehouse the definitive source of truth

Requirements

  • At least three years of experience in data engineering or a closely related field
  • Advanced practical experience with SQL, Python, PostgreSQL, and AWS EC2/RDS
  • Demonstrated ability to build and take ownership of data pipelines and warehouse architectures in fast-changing environments
  • Experience integrating APIs, automating workflows, and using GitHub for version control
  • Strong knowledge of data modelling, data quality, and pipeline observability
  • Understanding of data privacy and security, preferably including work with sensitive or regulated information under GDPR
  • Experience with orchestration platforms such as Airflow or Dagster is a plus
  • Experience with transformation frameworks such as dbt is a plus
  • Infrastructure-as-code experience is a plus
  • Familiarity with business intelligence tools such as AWS QuickSight is a plus
  • Able to work independently while bringing curiosity and a strong sense of ownership
  • Fluent English communication skills
  • German language skills are an advantage
