Senior Data Engineer at SailPoint, Texas Remote

Build SailPoint’s cloud identity-security lakehouse and streaming platform. Lead scalable pipelines, data models, reliability improvements, and production data services.

Description

  • Design, build, and operate scalable ETL/ELT pipelines and data services across the managed lakehouse
  • Manage pipelines and datasets from initial requirements through production support
  • Develop warehouse and lakehouse data models for product capabilities, analytics, and machine learning
  • Shape data architecture through design discussions and author or review technical design documents
  • Optimize performance, reliability, and cost across Snowflake, Iceberg, Spark/Flink, storage, and serving layers
  • Maintain responsive graph-serving data models and access patterns as data volumes increase
  • Establish standards for data quality, governance, lineage, and observability
  • Collaborate with product, infrastructure, security, analytics, data science, and software engineering teams
  • Review code and provide actionable, constructive feedback
  • Support junior engineers through mentoring and contribute to team processes, tools, and onboarding
  • Apply AI-assisted development methods while upholding code review, security, and data governance requirements
  • Join the on-call rotation and convert incident findings into durable engineering improvements
  • Complete onboarding, learn the product and technology stack, engage stakeholders, configure environments, and deliver focused reliability, performance, modeling, or pipeline-hardening projects
  • Lead significant features or pipelines through delivery while contributing to architecture, reviews, and mentorship
  • Become a dependable owner of platform areas and deliver measurable gains in reliability, data freshness, or cost

Requirements

  • At least five years of professional experience building production software, including substantial data engineering experience
  • At least two years owning production pipelines, datasets, or data services
  • Hands-on strength in SQL, data modeling, and query optimization, preferably with Snowflake or a comparable cloud warehouse
  • Hands-on experience with dbt and Airflow or comparable technologies
  • Proficiency in Python, Java, or Scala
  • Professional experience with distributed batch and streaming processing
  • Production experience with one or more of Kafka, Flink, Spark, or Cassandra
  • Practical experience using AI-assisted software development tools with rigorous review before production release
  • Experience working with cloud-native systems on AWS, Azure, or GCP
  • Understanding of data governance, security, and compliance practices
  • Ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and produce quality results in unfamiliar parts of a codebase
  • Ability to create clear design documents and communicate technical tradeoffs with engineering and product stakeholders
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience
  • Preferred experience includes large-scale data platforms, Apache Iceberg lakehouse architectures, graph data systems, SLOs and observability, Kubernetes, Terraform or CloudFormation, continuous delivery, Spark or Flink optimization, OpenSearch, ML workflows and MLOps, and IAM/IGA or compliance-, security-, or privacy-sensitive domains
