Regional Category Manager - Toronto, ON (Onsite)

Lead category strategy for Sysco in Toronto, driving market share, sales, and profitability across assigned products, vendors, and SKUs. Manage assortment decisions, vendor relationships, promotions, product education, and SKU optimization for regional growth.

Description

  • Drive market share, sales, and profitability across assigned product categories, vendors, and SKUs.
  • Guide sales toward profitable products, including Sysco-brand and sourced items.
  • Deliver product intelligence and category insights to the sales team.
  • Develop and manage product education and training plans for assigned categories.
  • Lead General Sales Meetings that support category growth and align with corporate and regional priorities.
  • Partner with marketing to develop regional category promotions.
  • Collaborate with Business Resources on customer-facing opportunities.
  • Apply market intelligence when preparing relevant sales quotations.
  • Make decisions on the local product assortment.
  • Rationalize SKUs to improve warehouse efficiency and inventory alignment.
  • Implement corporate strategies that support PGM growth.
  • Assist procurement with aged, overstocked, and deadstock inventory.
  • Resolve discrepancies and conflicts involving local vendors.
  • Negotiate agreements for local programs.
  • Coordinate local item and vendor setup, including costing.
  • Follow Sysco food safety policies and procedures.
  • Work safely, minimize environmental impact, and report hazards, incidents, and environmental spills promptly.
  • Promote a safe workplace by addressing hazards that affect personal and colleague safety.

Requirements

  • At least one year of merchandising, category management, or marketing experience.
  • Retail or foodservice sales experience is an asset.
  • Post-secondary education in a related field is preferred; equivalent experience may be considered.
  • Intermediate Microsoft Office skills, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Ability to build effective relationships with vendors and internal departments.
  • Strong negotiation, organization, decision-making, and presentation abilities.
  • High integrity and accountability, with the ability to manage proprietary information and processes.
  • Ability to perform consistently under pressure or opposition, including during conflict, ambiguity, and negotiations.
  • Strong knowledge of assigned-category products, including features, benefits, competitive advantages, trends, and related vendors.
  • Valid driver’s licence in good standing and access to a vehicle.
  • Availability for occasional ad hoc travel.
