Middle Market Underwriting Technician – Hybrid, United States

Support commercial Middle Market underwriting through submissions, renewals, endorsements, and agency service. Develop underwriting expertise while partnering with underwriters across the Southeast territory.

Description

  • Assist assigned underwriters with new-business submissions and renewal accounts
  • Work closely with the underwriter and UT leader
  • Serve agents and underwriters by handling escalations and urgent requests
  • Build knowledge of underwriting profitability, renewal book quality, and authority-based execution
  • Learn service metrics, workflows, and underwriting technician best practices
  • Develop agency relationships and practical service experience
  • Complete ongoing training with peers and UT leadership
  • Apply core underwriting principles covering risk selection, exposure and hazard controls, coverage implications, pricing, and loss analysis
  • Process authorized endorsements and refer exceptions to the Middle Market Underwriter
  • Prepare out-of-authority renewal books by starting renewal activities and collecting information from agents, claims adjusters, and risk solution representatives

Requirements

  • Preferred qualification is an associate degree and/or one to two years of commercial lines experience
  • Ability to develop a working understanding of exposure and control analysis and coverage
  • Foundational commercial lines underwriting knowledge involving premiums above $50,000
  • Understanding of how different roles and functions connect and why each is important
  • Resourceful approach to solving problems
  • Service-focused mindset with strong responsiveness
  • Ability to manage workload independently while meeting underwriting objectives and service standards
  • Clear verbal and written communication with internal and external partners
