Business Development Director, Transmission & Distribution Technology – Germany (Hybrid)

Lead DNV’s Transmission & Distribution growth strategy across Germany and the wider DACH region. Build senior energy-sector relationships and secure strategic consulting and engineering engagements.

Description

  • Set and deliver the growth strategy for Transmission & Distribution services across Germany and the DACH region
  • Identify opportunities arising from grid expansion, renewable integration, and infrastructure modernization
  • Track regulatory, technology, and market changes affecting utilities and system operators
  • Develop new service offerings in response to customer and market needs
  • Build trusted relationships with senior stakeholders at TSOs, DSOs, utilities, regulators, and infrastructure investment firms
  • Increase DNV’s profile and reach across Germany’s energy ecosystem
  • Advise customers on complex grid expansion and infrastructure investment challenges
  • Grow durable partnerships and uncover additional commercial opportunities
  • Maintain a robust pipeline of potential business
  • Manage complex, high-value pursuits from qualification through signed contract
  • Set bid strategies and make go/no-go recommendations
  • Bring together multidisciplinary teams to develop proposals
  • Negotiate and secure strategic consulting and engineering contracts
  • Represent DNV at key industry conferences and events
  • Present at industry forums and deliver keynote addresses
  • Create articles and other thought leadership materials
  • Contribute to initiatives influencing transmission and distribution network development
  • Position DNV as a recognized authority on grid expansion and transmission technology
  • Convert customer needs into practical, innovative solutions
  • Contribute to business planning and decisions on resource allocation
  • Sponsor major projects to support successful delivery and lasting customer value
  • Develop consultants’ and technical specialists’ commercial and customer-engagement capabilities
  • Distribute market intelligence and sector expertise across the organization
  • Help foster growth, collaboration, and ongoing improvement

Requirements

  • Substantial experience in business development, strategic sales, consulting leadership, or commercial management
  • Demonstrated business growth in consulting, engineering, infrastructure, or energy markets
  • A strong record of securing complex, high-value opportunities
  • Experience creating and delivering growth strategies in technical settings
  • Deep knowledge of Germany’s Transmission & Distribution sector
  • Knowledge of grid expansion, high-voltage infrastructure, substations, overhead lines, underground cables, power system planning, renewable integration, grid congestion, and energy infrastructure investment
  • An established network among TSOs, DSOs, utilities, engineering firms, regulators, and other energy-sector stakeholders
  • Ability to identify market trends and turn them into commercial opportunities
  • Strong commercial judgment and analytical skills
  • Experience operating in complex stakeholder environments
  • An entrepreneurial mindset paired with strategic thinking
  • Excellent relationship management and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Confidence communicating with technical specialists and executive decision-makers
  • Experience coaching and mentoring professionals
  • A collaborative leadership approach centered on sustainable growth
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in engineering, energy, business, or a related field
  • Fluency in German and English
  • Willingness to travel throughout Germany and Europe
  • Successful completion of legally applicable background checks and related processes
