Assistant Editor, Scientific Publishing — Beijing Hybrid

Manage scientific manuscripts from initial screening through peer review, revision, and editorial decisions. Support Wiley’s journal portfolio through reviewer coordination, content development, and publishing-quality initiatives.

Description

  • Manage manuscripts from initial screening through peer review and post-acceptance processing
  • Screen submissions for subject-matter fit and escalate research-integrity concerns through the appropriate channels
  • Assess new submissions and document well-supported editorial decisions
  • Identify and invite suitable peer reviewers
  • Evaluate reviewer feedback and determine whether manuscripts should be accepted, rejected, revised, or referred
  • Review revised submissions and decide whether additional external assessment is required
  • Recommend suitable Wiley portfolio journals for manuscripts declined by the initial journal
  • Evaluate author rebuttals and respond with timely editorial action
  • Commission invited reviews, special issues, and other content supporting Publishing Development
  • Approach prospective authors and follow up with authors who have committed to invited contributions
  • Analyze reporting to identify peer-review patterns and opportunities for improvement
  • Work with senior colleagues and the line manager to improve performance
  • Contribute to subject-area groups with handling editors and editorial assessment teams
  • Build subject knowledge and professional connections through seminars, webinars, and conferences
  • Complete peer-to-peer and formal training on editorial systems

Requirements

  • Research experience in a defined academic discipline
  • Subject-matter expertise in the relevant broad field
  • Background as a research author and peer reviewer
  • Potential experience as a guest editor or junior editorial-board member
  • Limited prior handling-editor experience; this is an entry-level position
  • Capability to screen manuscripts and manage peer-review activities
  • Ability to assess submissions against journal scope, policies, and suitability
  • Ability to identify and invite appropriate reviewers
  • Ability to interpret reviewer reports and make Accept, Reject, Revise, or Refer decisions
  • Ability to evaluate revised manuscripts and author rebuttals
  • Ability to recommend suitable journals for manuscript transfers
  • Ability to analyze peer-review reports and identify improvement opportunities
  • Willingness to participate in seminars, webinars, and conferences
  • Ability to complete training on required editorial systems
  • Resume or CV required with the application
