Postdoctoral Research Fellow, Agentic Modeling and Wargaming

Descriere

  • Shape research questions, hypotheses, evaluation criteria, and practical work plans with a senior mentor
  • Propose original studies and help create an individual development plan
  • Build, test, debug, document, and demonstrate prototype models, simulation components, data integrations, and analytical applications
  • Turn scoped concepts into working implementations and evaluate them iteratively
  • Develop and assess generative agent-based simulations and human-supervised agentic workflows
  • Run experiments and sensitivity studies on prompts, model choices, stochastic variation, data quality, and assumptions
  • Compare findings with baselines or reference cases and record limitations
  • Apply Python and related tools to prepare data, use APIs, run simulations, and analyze results
  • Work in approved AWS or comparable environments while following access controls and compute budgets
  • Translate research into mission threads, conceptual models, requirements, interfaces, and evaluation plans
  • Support analytical wargames and tabletop studies with scenarios, evaluation logic, data collection, and prototype demonstrations
  • Join approved, unclassified discussions with government stakeholders and present technical findings and limitations
  • Maintain version-controlled code, tests, experiment records, and technical documentation
  • Prepare research briefs, presentations, manuscripts, and publication-ready materials when release is authorized
  • Track agreed tasks and milestones, report progress, flag risks, and contribute to technical reviews
  • Use approved coding assistants responsibly and verify generated code independently
  • Work with an assigned senior research mentor on mission engineering, analytical wargaming, and decision-support prototyping

Cerințe

  • Show research and modeling ability through doctoral work, publications, research engagements, or substantial technical projects
  • No minimum post-Ph.D. employment experience is required
  • Can build, test, debug, and explain functioning analytical software or research prototypes
  • Proficient in Python, or strongly skilled in another relevant language and able to become productive in Python quickly
  • Experience with agent-based modeling, system dynamics, generative agents, or related computational modeling
  • Understand agentic AI and can investigate and verify model behavior
  • Can design experiments, assess evidence, conduct sensitivity analyses, and maintain reproducible code and research records
  • Practical experience with APIs, version control, debugging, and testing
  • Experience with cloud tools such as AWS, or ability to learn approved environments quickly while following data handling, access, and resource-use rules
  • Can structure open-ended problems, learn new mission areas, communicate with technical and nontechnical audiences, carry out agreed work independently, and respond constructively to review
  • Ph.D. in Industrial and Systems Engineering, another engineering discipline, Operations Research, Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, or a related technical field completed by the fellowship start date
  • Selected candidate must meet employment authorization and applicable background-screening requirements
  • Familiarity with or strong interest in the national security field is critical for long-term success
  • Prior defense employment, an existing security clearance, and independent wargame leadership are not required
