Staff Scientist, Real-World Evidence and Data Science

Description

  • Set and deliver long-term real-world evidence plans for Abbott’s vascular portfolio
  • Turn clinical and economic evidence gaps into practical strategies tied to business priorities
  • Direct real-world evidence, health economics, and digital health study design and delivery
  • Use machine learning, predictive modeling, and advanced phenotyping to derive clinically useful insights from complex healthcare data
  • Set analytic direction and code RWE studies hands-on with SQL, R, SAS, Python, or comparable languages
  • Oversee data preparation, cohort building, variable creation, and analyses across varied data sources
  • Maintain compliance with data governance and privacy standards
  • Review and validate programming logic and provide technical programming oversight
  • Prepare RWE protocols, reports, regulatory submissions, conference materials, and peer-reviewed publications
  • Present study methods and findings to regulatory and reimbursement authorities
  • Coach scientists in dataset selection, study methodology, and communicating results
  • Track evidence, clinical guidelines, competing technologies, and unmet needs in coronary and peripheral vascular care
  • Partner with biostatistics, clinical, regulatory, medical affairs, health economics, and R&D functions
  • Build working relationships with academic investigators, data providers, clinical specialists, and key opinion leaders

Requirements

  • A master’s degree is preferred; the required educational credential is not expressly specified
  • At least nine years of relevant professional experience
  • Broad command of business principles, procedures, and practices, with the ability to apply them effectively
  • Ability to operate within a quality system and meet applicable government regulations
  • Skill in evaluating complex problems and datasets in depth
  • A PhD, DrPH, MS, or comparable advanced degree in epidemiology, biostatistics, clinical research, public health, outcomes research, biomedical engineering, or a related field is preferred
  • Professional experience in real-world evidence, observational research, outcomes research, or a comparable analytical research function
  • Hands-on work with electronic health records, administrative claims, hospital billing records, registries, or similar large-scale healthcare datasets
  • Strong grounding in observational study design and epidemiological methods
  • Experience writing RWE protocols, analysis plans, or study reports
  • Practical proficiency in SQL, R, SAS, Python, or comparable statistical and analytical languages
  • Experience validating analytical datasets, code, and study results
  • Experience producing study reports, abstracts, presentation decks, and manuscripts
  • Familiarity with regulatory or methodological guidance for RWE and observational research
  • Experience or interest in coronary, peripheral vascular, or related cardiovascular therapeutic areas
  • Ability to coordinate multiple projects or workstreams while meeting deadlines and quality expectations
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated record of publishing scientific manuscripts
  • Experience collaborating within cross-functional teams is preferred
