Senior/Principal Data Engineer – Databricks, Hungary Remote

Description

  • Define how data platforms are designed, operated, and evolved
  • Own data platform initiatives from initial concept through implementation
  • Make architectural decisions and continuously improve platform capabilities
  • Create scalable Databricks foundations using Delta Lake, Unity Catalog, and governance practices
  • Orchestrate workflows and establish effective code and deployment structures
  • Design and develop data flows spanning ingestion through consumption
  • Build and support data models, pipelines, and ETL/ELT solutions
  • Provide technical leadership through peer reviews, mentoring, and knowledge exchange
  • Evaluate assumptions, communicate trade-offs, and guide decisions with engineers, product owners, and CTOs
  • Help clients turn data into value through scalable platforms supporting practical business use cases
  • Candidates without Databricks experience can complete a seven-month development track with certifications, client project work, and internal knowledge sharing before moving to a permanent contract after agreed milestones

Requirements

  • Experience leading or significantly contributing to data platforms from initial concept to delivery
  • A track record of making architectural decisions, owning results, and improving platforms
  • Strong knowledge of Databricks, including Delta Lake, Unity Catalog, governance, Workflows, code organization, and deployments
  • Candidates with strong data platform experience but limited Databricks exposure can apply through the available specialization track
  • Proficiency in Python and SQL
  • Experience with data modeling and data pipeline development
  • Experience working with Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud Platform
  • Experience developing ETL/ELT pipelines and cloud-based data solutions
  • Ability to establish an approach, architecture, and initial plan for ambiguous data platform work
  • Ability to combine pragmatic delivery with quality and sustainable long-term design
  • Ability to strengthen colleagues’ technical skills through reviews and knowledge sharing
  • Ability to influence technical and business decisions while clearly explaining trade-offs
  • Databricks certifications such as Data Engineer Professional or Machine Learning Engineer Professional are advantageous
  • Databricks Champion status is advantageous
