Senior PR Manager - onXmaps (Remote)

Lead earned media strategy for onXmaps’ Offroad and Backcountry businesses in this remote senior PR role. Build media relationships, shape narratives, support spokesperson programs, and deliver integrated public relations campaigns.

Description

  • Own earned media strategies for onXmaps’ Offroad and Backcountry businesses
  • Direct the Offroad PR program and oversee the agency supporting Backcountry PR
  • Turn product priorities, customer insights, technology, partnerships, and Access & Stewardship initiatives into stories for endemic, regional, and national audiences
  • Develop trusted media relationships and manage proactive pitching, inbound requests, press materials, product demonstrations, media experiences, and priority media events
  • Represent onXmaps as a spokesperson and prepare executives and subject-matter experts for interviews, speaking engagements, and other external opportunities
  • Collaborate with Product, Growth, Community, Paid Marketing, and business leaders to incorporate earned media into launches, campaigns, and company initiatives
  • Advise stakeholders on messaging, timing, audiences, and reputational considerations
  • Track coverage, sentiment, industry developments, and emerging issues to strengthen PR strategy and execution
  • Identify reputational risks and contribute to crisis communications planning and response
  • Apply AI and emerging tools to media research, trend monitoring, narrative development, content creation, and campaign measurement while maintaining editorial judgment, fact-checking, and brand safeguards
  • Report to the PR and Communications Director

Requirements

  • At least eight years of progressive experience in public relations, communications, or earned media, including ownership of complex programs, campaigns, or business areas
  • Able to set PR direction while personally handling research, pitching, content development, spokesperson preparation, media events, and measurement
  • Proven success building trusted journalist relationships, managing inbound opportunities, and earning meaningful coverage in endemic, regional, and national outlets
  • Excellent writing, verbal communication, and presentation abilities
  • Experience directing agency partners and collaborating with Product, Growth, Community, Paid Marketing, and other stakeholders in a matrixed organization
  • Strong judgment in sensitive situations involving reputational risk, crisis communications, and competing stakeholder perspectives
  • Able to define meaningful PR success metrics and apply quantitative and qualitative insights
  • Experience using AI for research, trend monitoring, insight synthesis, content development, and measurement, with safeguards for accuracy, confidentiality, brand voice, and reputation
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to prioritize and deliver multiple initiatives in a fast-moving environment
  • Bachelor’s degree in public relations, communications, journalism, or a related field, or equivalent experience, plus relevant writing or work samples
  • Permanent US work authorization is required for employment with onXmaps
  • Able to travel for several days a few times each quarter to attend events, host media, and work with the onX team at a corporate office or other strategic onX location
  • Must reside in a state where onXmaps can currently employ team members; onXmaps cannot employ individuals whose primary work location is in Alabama, Alaska, Arkansas, Connecticut, Delaware, District of Columbia, Florida, Hawaii, Illinois, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Dakota, West Virginia, or Wyoming
