Senior Data Analyst, Institutional Services (Hybrid – Baltimore)

Senior Data Analyst supporting enterprise data governance, quality, architecture, and integration for Institutional Services. The role translates business needs into data requirements and supports modernization, compliance, and data management initiatives.

Description

  • Inventory and document enterprise data across applications, databases, files, reporting platforms, and third-party systems
  • Assess data sources to identify authoritative systems of record
  • Maintain data inventories, catalogs, glossaries, metadata repositories, and data dictionaries
  • Evaluate data quality, completeness, consistency, availability, and usage
  • Trace data movement across applications, interfaces, APIs, databases, files, and reporting environments
  • Document complete data flows, transformations, handoffs, dependencies, and consumption points
  • Surface gaps, duplication, control weaknesses, and process risks
  • Partner with architects and technology teams on data movement and integration
  • Support impact assessments for enhancements, migrations, integrations, and new initiatives
  • Gather business needs and convert them into functional and data requirements
  • Develop specifications, use cases, business rules, process flows, data mappings, and acceptance criteria
  • Connect business stakeholders with technology delivery teams
  • Support data governance efforts covering ownership, stewardship, classification, retention, and accountability
  • Recommend standards for data quality, metadata, reference data, and master data
  • Contribute to audit, regulatory, privacy, risk, and compliance data initiatives
  • Review and interpret conceptual, logical, and physical data models
  • Assess the effects of changes to data structures, interfaces, reports, and business processes
  • Maintain enterprise data architecture documentation, standards, and reusable artifacts
  • Present findings, recommendations, risks, and options to management and project stakeholders
  • Lead workshops and encourage data literacy
  • Follow risk, regulatory, policy, control, and internal control standards
  • Escalate risk issues and address audit or regulator action items
  • Support belonging and represent the M&T Bank brand
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree plus at least five years of related experience, or at least nine combined years of higher education and/or work experience in lieu of a degree, including five years of related experience
  • At least five years of experience in data analysis, business analysis, data governance, data management, information management, or a related field
  • Strong command of data management principles and the data lifecycle
  • Experience defining and documenting business, functional, and data requirements
  • Experience evaluating data flows, system interfaces, and application dependencies
  • Effective communication skills across business and technology audiences
  • Strong analytical, organizational, facilitation, and problem-solving capabilities
  • Intermediate ability to access and retrieve data directly from databases and/or through APIs
  • Working proficiency with SQL and relational database concepts
  • Ability to use query languages and data analysis tools to inspect, validate, reconcile, and interpret data
  • Working knowledge of multiple database systems, including Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, PostgreSQL, MySQL, IBM Db2, or cloud data platforms
  • Ability to read and interpret entity-relationship diagrams and conceptual, logical, and physical data models
  • Knowledge of data dictionaries, metadata, lineage, quality, master data, reference data, governance, and related tools
  • Knowledge of data warehousing, reporting, integration, and transformation concepts
  • Understanding of data within a workflow platform such as Appian
  • Experience in the financial industry
