Senior Contract Manager, Hydropower Projects – Canada Remote

Lead contract strategy, commercial risk, claims, and negotiations for GE Vernova’s major hydroelectric projects. This fully remote British Columbia role includes approximately 15–25% project-related travel.

Description

  • Manage contracts for major hydroelectric projects from bidding through execution, close-out, and warranty.
  • Create and execute contractual strategies tailored to individual projects.
  • Oversee commercial and contractual risks, opportunities, notices, changes, claims, disputes, and insurance matters.
  • Draft, review, and adapt commercial and contractual provisions.
  • Negotiate and complete contracts, amendments, change orders, and other commercial agreements.
  • Prepare notices, amendments, change submissions, claims, and formal contractual communications.
  • Counsel project leaders and cross-functional teams on contractual rights, duties, obligations, and exposure.
  • Create and maintain contract-management plans and tracking tools for obligations, milestones, notices, changes, and claims.
  • Coordinate significant claims and disputes with project leadership, Legal, Finance, and other functions.
  • Track compliance, record deviations, and preserve contractual documentation and decision history.
  • Contribute to project risk and opportunity reviews and support mitigation and opportunity-capture actions.
  • Develop effective working relationships with customers, partners, suppliers, and subcontractors.
  • Coach and advise less-experienced contract management professionals.
  • Present contractual risk assessments and updates through project-governance processes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction, quantity surveying, business, finance, law, or a related technical or commercial field.
  • At least eight years of contract management experience in complex EPC, construction, infrastructure, energy, power generation, or major industrial projects.
  • Working knowledge of the Canadian energy or infrastructure sector.
  • Experience supporting public utilities, public-sector entities, or sophisticated infrastructure customers.
  • Proven ability to prepare and manage complex, high-value amendments, changes, claims, and contractual submissions.
  • Strong grasp of project financial factors, including costs, margins, risks, opportunities, and cash impact.
  • Ability to analyze and resolve complex contractual and commercial issues.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, negotiation, and stakeholder-management capabilities.
  • Proactive approach, strong ownership, and readiness to recommend and implement improvements.
  • Strong written and verbal English skills.
  • Willingness and ability to travel approximately 15–25%.
  • Experience with turnkey EPC projects or other complex delivery models is preferred.
  • Background in hydropower, power generation, major infrastructure, construction, or complex industrial projects is preferred.
  • Experience administering major equipment supply, installation, consortium, or subcontracting arrangements is preferred.
  • Experience handling significant changes, claims, insurance matters, or disputes is preferred.
  • Experience working in a complex global or matrixed organization is preferred.
  • Experience coaching or mentoring contract management professionals is preferred.
