Senior Business Intelligence Developer – Minneapolis Hybrid

Senior Business Intelligence Developer responsible for advancing Barr Engineering’s internal data warehouse, reporting, and enterprise analytics capabilities. The role focuses on Microsoft Fabric, Power BI, governed BI architecture, and scalable cloud-based data solutions.

Description

  • Create dimensional models and semantic layers for reporting, self-service analytics, and AI-supported data use.
  • Connect lakehouses, warehouses, pipelines, and Power BI semantic models through Microsoft Fabric.
  • Assess BI designs and reinforce standards that support consistency and long-term maintainability.
  • Improve SQL, DAX, semantic model performance, data processing, and refresh operations.
  • Develop practices for validation, monitoring, documentation, and issue resolution.
  • Implement governance across workspaces, deployment pipelines, source control, security, releases, and change management.
  • Lead complex BI efforts and assess relevant emerging technologies.
  • Partner with technical and business stakeholders to turn needs into durable solutions.
  • Present progress, risks, and technical recommendations clearly to varied audiences.
  • Maintain Barr’s internal data warehouse, semantic models, and reporting environment while advancing modern cloud technologies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline or equivalent practical experience.
  • At least 10 years of experience designing, developing, and maintaining enterprise business intelligence solutions.
  • Experience with data ingestion and transformation, data warehouse modeling, Power BI semantic models, and reporting.
  • Background optimizing the performance of data warehouses and semantic models.
  • Experience using DevOps practices for BI, including source control, deployment pipelines, testing, and change management.
  • Experience establishing BI governance through data definitions, quality checks, access controls, and documentation.
  • Advanced command of SQL, DAX, dimensional modeling, and semantic models.
  • Strong analytical ability and troubleshooting skills.
  • Experience with Power BI, Microsoft Fabric, or a comparable cloud analytics platform.
  • Ability to explain technical recommendations and tradeoffs effectively to technical and business audiences.
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States without current or future sponsorship from Barr.
  • Preferred but not required: cloud migration; Azure data and analytics services; Fabric capacity and workload management; APIs, automation, and workflow orchestration; or AI capabilities applied to BI, analytics, or reporting.
