Oxford Quantum Circuits (OQC)
Oxford Quantum Circuits (OQC) develops enterprise-focused quantum computing technology for organizations exploring practical applications of quantum systems. Founded in 2017, the company combines expertise in quantum computing, artificial intelligence, and enterprise technology to deliver solutions intended to be accessible, secure, and reliable. Its work centers on helping businesses build quantum capabilities and investigate complex problems that may benefit from quantum computing.

Senior Algorithm Engineer – Quantum Computing

Develop reusable classical algorithms and scientific machine-learning methods for Oxford Quantum Circuits’ quantum-computing products. Benchmark hybrid approaches and assess practical opportunities for quantum applications.

Description

  • Choose, adapt and implement classical algorithms and scientific machine-learning techniques based on each problem’s structure and objectives.
  • Develop reusable optimisation, sampling, surrogate, generative and multi-fidelity methods for a range of products and applications.
  • Work with quantum algorithm engineers and technical product colleagues to integrate algorithmic components into broader applications.
  • Build benchmark implementations and equivalent classical controls to compare quantum and hybrid approaches rigorously.
  • Create reusable evaluator libraries that support consistent assessment across product and algorithm-development infrastructure.
  • Identify workloads that may benefit from quantum intervention and communicate the supporting evidence, limitations and trade-offs.
  • Initially support financial-services applications, with opportunities to apply this expertise across additional sectors.
  • Report to Product and Engineering leadership as a senior, hands-on individual contributor within the Product team.

Requirements

  • Deep expertise in classical algorithms or scientific machine learning, with specialisation in one or more of optimisation, probabilistic modelling, simulation or generative methods.
  • Practical experience implementing and assessing algorithms.
  • Understanding of how technical work contributes to real-world applications.
  • Experience creating rigorous benchmarks and choosing methods based on the problem and available evidence.
  • Broad technical capability to support financial-services applications initially and contribute across other sectors.
  • Ability to own workstreams, communicate clearly and collaborate effectively across disciplines.
  • A degree or equivalent practical experience in computer science, software engineering or a related field.
  • Experience translating algorithms into commercially deployed applications or products is desirable.
  • Experience with enterprise platforms, data products or deployments for regulated customers is desirable.
  • Familiarity with quantum computing or hybrid classical–quantum products is desirable.
  • A relevant professional or postgraduate qualification is desirable.
  • A pragmatic problem-solving style that balances technical rigour with practical delivery.
  • Curiosity about emerging technologies and a willingness to investigate meaningful applications.
  • Confidence working in a rapidly evolving technical environment.

Benefits

  • Hybrid working arrangements.
  • Regular opportunities to work together in the office.
  • Collaboration with quantum-computing specialists.
  • The opportunity to develop reusable capabilities across products and sectors.
