Water Resources Engineer (Mid to Senior Level) – San Diego Onsite

Lead hydrologic and hydraulic modeling for Moffatt & Nichol waterfront and infrastructure projects. Develop designs, bid packages, technical reports, and flood-risk solutions.

Description

  • Lead projects focused on surface-water hydrology and hydraulics, flood-risk management, and estuarine and coastal restoration and protection
  • Provide oversight to junior engineering staff as needed
  • Conduct numerical modeling for stormwater and drainage improvement initiatives
  • Perform one-dimensional and two-dimensional riverine hydraulic modeling
  • Develop plans, specifications, and cost estimates for final construction bid packages
  • Contribute to design work and coordinate meetings with project teams, subcontractors, and client managers
  • Help determine technical methods, feasibility, costs, construction strategies, and schedule performance
  • Create project graphics, reports, and presentations
  • Address varied technical and project challenges with practical, creative solutions
  • Coordinate with government agencies, local authorities, contractors, and other stakeholders

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering is required
  • Master of Science degree is preferred
  • At least 5–10 years of relevant experience is required
  • Engineer-in-Training certification is required
  • Professional Engineer registration is preferred
  • Demonstrated breadth of expertise or specialized technical knowledge
  • Ability to build effective working relationships with team members and project managers
  • Experience with floodplain mapping and management, including FEMA floodplain regulations and standards
  • Experience designing and permitting stormwater and drainage infrastructure and performing related hydrologic and hydraulic modeling
  • Experience in watershed assessment and planning
  • Experience with flood protection and resilience initiatives
  • Experience with low-impact development and green infrastructure
  • Experience developing project scopes and fee proposals
  • Knowledge of construction principles, surveying, inspection, engineering methods and materials, and surveying techniques
  • Working knowledge of HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, SWMM/XPSWMM/PCSWMM, WSPGW, Inforworks ICM, ESRI GIS, AutoCAD Civil 3D, and Microsoft Office
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment background check compliant with NIST 800-171
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States and ability to provide required documentation upon hire
  • Ability to travel across unpaved or natural terrain while carrying equipment during some site visits
