Mid-to-Senior Water Resources Engineer — San Diego, Onsite

Lead hydrologic, hydraulic, and hydrodynamic modeling for Moffatt & Nichol’s waterfront infrastructure work. Develop flood protection, stormwater, drainage, and coastal resilience solutions.

Description

  • Build surface water hydraulic, hydrologic, and hydrodynamic models
  • Complete engineering calculations for surface water and drainage systems
  • Evaluate system flow, flood hazards, and mitigation options
  • Support flood damage prevention and compliance with local, state, and federal flood management requirements
  • Create exhibits, technical reports, and presentations that communicate findings and recommendations
  • Develop plans, specifications, estimates, and related project documentation
  • Coordinate with government agencies, local authorities, contractors, project teams, subcontractors, and client representatives
  • Lead technical work involving surface water hydrology and hydraulics, flood risk management, and estuarine or coastal restoration and protection
  • Provide oversight to junior engineering staff when appropriate
  • Conduct numerical modeling for stormwater and drainage improvement initiatives
  • Complete one-dimensional and two-dimensional riverine hydraulic modeling
  • Develop plans, specifications, and cost estimates for final bid packages
  • Participate in design work and project meetings
  • Help determine technical methods, feasibility, costs, construction strategies, and schedules
  • Produce project graphics, reports, and presentations
  • Develop creative solutions to a broad range of technical and project issues

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering is required
  • Master of Science degree is preferred
  • At least 5–10 years of relevant experience is required
  • Engineer-in-Training certification is required
  • Professional Engineer registration is preferred
  • Demonstrated broad expertise or specialized knowledge
  • Ability to build effective working relationships with team members and project managers
  • Experience with floodplain mapping, floodplain management, and compliance with FEMA floodplain regulations and standards
  • Experience modeling stormwater hydrology and hydraulics, and permitting and designing stormwater and drainage infrastructure
  • Experience conducting watershed assessments and planning
  • Experience with flood protection and resilience
  • Experience with low-impact development and green infrastructure
  • Experience developing project scopes and fee proposals
  • Working knowledge of construction principles, surveying, inspection, engineering methods and materials, and survey techniques
  • Working knowledge of HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, SWMM/XPSWMM/PCSWMM, WSPGW, InfoWorks ICM, ESRI GIS, AutoCAD Civil 3D, and Microsoft Office
  • Ability to successfully complete a pre-employment background check compliant with NIST 800-171
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States and ability to provide required hiring documentation
  • Ability to travel across unpaved or natural terrain while carrying equipment during some site visits
