Remote Project Coordinator, Southern California Wildfire Mitigation

The Project Coordinator will support Southern California roadside wildfire ignition reduction projects for the National Forest Foundation. The role coordinates public-private partnerships, funding, environmental review, and long-term project planning.

Description

  • Support the Southern California Ignition Reduction Program, a public-private partnership focused on reducing human-caused wildfire ignitions
  • Assist with developing and implementing roadside ignition reduction projects
  • Coordinate activities with federal, state, and private-sector partners
  • Support fundraising initiatives for project work
  • Assist with project solicitation, prioritization, and development of the 10-Year Project Portfolio and Master Plan
  • Create project pipeline tools for prioritization, planning, and implementation
  • Build relationships and facilitate communication among SCIRP partners and project leads
  • Prepare agendas, facilitate meetings, and record key takeaways
  • Coordinate environmental reviews and related activities with agency partners
  • Plan and oversee project site visits
  • Provide regular updates to the SCIRP Executive Committee and Core Team
  • Work with NFF staff and SCIRP members to obtain government, foundation, corporate, and individual funding
  • Assist with progress and funding reports
  • Oversee advertising, negotiation, and contract awards for SCIRP project services
  • Stay current on wildfire risk reduction, land management policy, regulations, trends, emerging issues, and innovations
  • Report to the Southern California Program Director and collaborate with the USDA Forest Service, California Department of Conservation, California Department of Transportation, and California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in natural resource management, biological sciences, environmental policy, or a related field, or equivalent experience
  • At least three years of experience in project management, government agency relations, or natural resource management
  • Familiarity with the U.S. Forest Service, California Department of Conservation, California Department of Transportation, and California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection
  • Knowledge of natural resource management principles, practices, and concepts in Southern California and the Central Coast
  • Experience with U.S. Forest Service and/or California land management policies, procedures, and regulations
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with people and groups holding varied perspectives
  • Authorization to work in the United States
  • Advanced communication, coordination, and facilitation skills
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to prioritize work, manage timelines, create workflows, and handle multiple projects and tasks
  • Ability to use a range of document and data management platforms
  • Ability to collaborate effectively and adapt within a team-oriented environment
  • Self-motivated and able to remain focused and productive in a fully remote workplace
  • Valid U.S. driver’s license and clean driving record
  • Willingness and ability to travel to project sites in Southern California and the Central Coast as needed
  • Strong analytical ability and close attention to detail
  • Reliable internet access and a dedicated workspace
