Financial Counselor - Lorain, Ohio Onsite

Full-time onsite Financial Counselor role at Mercy - Lorain Hospital, supporting insurance verification, patient benefit education, authorization, and liability collection.

Description

  • Educate inpatient patients about their benefits and validate coverage
  • Review inpatient benefits in person, secure authorizations, and collect liabilities for inpatient, observation, and outpatient-in-a-bed services
  • Calculate and collect copayments, deductibles, coinsurance, and post-assistance balances
  • Verify insurance and financial details to establish patient responsibility
  • Meet with patients during their stay to collect estimated liabilities
  • Manage assigned patient access, eligibility, and follow-up reports
  • Lead daily in-house call reviews to confirm payor sources and account authorizations
  • Complete pre-registration and registration activities while attempting to collect financial responsibility
  • Track missed collection opportunities and make at least three room-visit attempts each day when patients are unavailable
  • Document patient liability on all applicable accounts each day
  • Call in-house patients who cannot pay during their stay for follow-up
  • Mail post-discharge letters explaining estimated liability and payment options
  • Secure signatures for consent to treat, observation, Important Message from Medicare, and registration documents
  • Support insurance verification, Medicaid and charity processing, and related activities
  • Run a daily census to identify patients who may qualify for assistance
  • Collect and organize outpatient orders for current and future service dates through Revenue Cycle system queues
  • Follow Ensemble policies, procedures, mission, and regulatory compliance requirements

Requirements

  • At least one year of customer service experience
  • Curiosity and openness to innovation, including AI, to improve processes and patient and client experiences
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Earn the company-funded CRCR certification within six months of hire
  • Must live in and be authorized to work in the United States
  • Availability for nights, weekends, and holidays may be required
