Field Service Technician – Minnesota Public Safety Communications

Maintain Motorola Solutions’ mission-critical public safety communication systems in Minnesota. Deploy, troubleshoot, and optimize RF, networking, and P25 infrastructure for government customers.

Description

  • Support Motorola Solutions’ Field Service Organization for government and public safety communications customers
  • Deploy, optimize, repair, and maintain mission-critical digital mobile communication infrastructure and related equipment
  • Deliver technical support and advanced troubleshooting for software-driven electronics and communications infrastructure
  • Provision communications infrastructure and optimize RF and broadband architectures across analog, P25 digital, and data systems
  • Maintain, optimize, test, document, and support complex communications systems
  • Perform preventive maintenance, trend analysis, and technical documentation
  • Develop solutions to complex technical problems arising during maintenance, upgrades, and support activities
  • Work with Engineering, Project Management, Sales, Customer Service, Field Engineers, and service partners
  • Support LAN, WAN, wired and wireless communications, logging and recording systems, RF interfaces, networking equipment, server hardware and operating systems, and software infrastructure
  • Submit weekly reports covering activities and accomplishments
  • Provide technical training and guidance for integrating new tools and solutions
  • Resolve customer and system or application issues, including in high-pressure situations
  • Provide 24/7/365 on-call support for Minnesota’s ARMER Public Safety System

Requirements

  • Must reside in Minnesota
  • At least five years of experience in LMR, RF systems, radio communications, wired or wireless communications, IT systems, telecommunications, public safety, engineering, networking equipment, IP networking, solutions architecture, ASTRO 25, P25, WAVE VoIP, military service, or comparable technical work
  • Must be a U.S. citizen and able to obtain security clearance required by government contracts
  • Must have indefinite authorization to work in the United States; employer-sponsored work permits are unavailable
  • Must pass a stringent fingerprint background check under the CJIS Security Policy
  • Experience with P25 systems, LMR RF systems, wired and wireless communications, networking equipment, IT networks, and subscriber equipment
  • Advanced knowledge of wired and wireless communications, including LAN and WAN networks
  • Understanding of standard telephony, dedicated data circuits, and packet-switching techniques
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Access
  • Strong self-management and interpersonal abilities
  • Knowledge of configuring and testing channel banks, routers, hubs, and switches
  • Ability to create and deliver technical training
  • Experience using communications systems analyzers, power sensors and watt meters, TIMS sets, CPS, RSS, antenna systems analyzers (FDRs), T1 test sets, and similar equipment
  • Experience configuring and testing Motorola two-way radios and subscriber products
  • FCC license and ETA or CompTIA certifications are advantageous but not required
  • Able to provide 24/7/365 on-call support and work at customer sites at least two days per week
  • Able to travel 25–50%
