Field Property Claims Adjuster - Missouri Remote

Farmers Insurance is hiring a field property claims adjuster to investigate residential damage, assess liability and losses, and negotiate settlements in the Greater Columbia area. The role combines virtual and on-site work with regular engagement across the claims process.

Description

  • Investigate policyholder properties through virtual reviews and on-site visits
  • Assess damage, establish liability, determine the scope of loss, and negotiate equitable settlements
  • Use claims software to evaluate covered damage and prepare estimates in a paperless workflow
  • Identify and document potential subrogation opportunities
  • Refer suspected theft, fraud, and arson cases to the appropriate state and industry authorities
  • Work independently while making decisions that influence management outcomes
  • Represent the company professionally in interactions with the public
  • Coordinate with policyholders, claimants, agents, witnesses, contractors, law enforcement, fraud and arson investigators, attorneys, medical professionals, and other stakeholders
  • Work directly with policyholders to resolve and settle claims
  • Follow workplace safety and ergonomic requirements
  • Complete other assigned responsibilities

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required
  • Strong customer service experience, ideally in a retail setting
  • Construction or insurance experience is strongly preferred
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Computer proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Comfort using smartphones and mobile applications
  • Interest in learning insurance policies and property damage assessment
  • Personable communication style with the ability to work with policyholders, claimants, agents, witnesses, and fraud investigators
  • Valid driver's license
  • Must be bondable
  • Finalists must complete a Motor Vehicle Record background check
  • Able and willing to climb ladders and access rooftops several times each day
  • Able to work in confined areas, including attics and crawlspaces
  • Must earn a passing score on all claims training examinations
  • Able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds
  • Able to speak, read, write, and enter information in English
  • Able to work outdoors in uncontrolled weather and potentially hazardous conditions
  • CAT team assignments involve approximately 23 days of travel away from home; employees must commit to one to three CAT deployments annually
