Copy Editor, Law360 Australia (Sydney or Melbourne)

Edit breaking legal, regulatory and business news for Law360 Australia, shaping accuracy, headlines and editorial style. This onsite RELX role is based in Sydney or Melbourne.

Description

  • Edit and publish breaking news, analysis and features on complex legal, regulatory and business topics
  • Review daily news stories for accuracy, clarity, structure and readability
  • Resolve factual, grammatical, spelling and stylistic errors
  • Craft accurate, engaging headlines for a professional readership
  • Apply Law360’s editorial standards and house style to every article
  • Use sound news judgement to prioritise important breaking stories
  • Spot and escalate potential legal, ethical or editorial risks
  • Give reporters clear, constructive editorial feedback
  • Help develop and maintain newsroom style guidance
  • Edit and publish articles from external legal experts
  • Communicate professionally with contributors and internal legal teams
  • Support editorial planning and newsroom discussions
  • Work with Law360 colleagues in Australia and internationally
  • Evaluate approved tools, including generative AI, while preserving human editorial judgement

Requirements

  • Around 2–6 years of professional copy-editing experience
  • Background editing news copy in a deadline-focused environment
  • Strong command of grammar, spelling, writing and headline creation
  • Exceptional attention to detail, including the ability to catch factual inconsistencies
  • Well-developed editorial and news judgement
  • Ability to work independently and make confident editing decisions
  • Strong organisation skills for managing competing deadlines
  • Constructive, collaborative approach to feedback for journalists
  • Relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent experience-based skills
  • Journalism or reporting experience leading into copy editing is highly valued
  • Experience with daily legal, financial or business news is desirable
  • Availability for occasional weekend work may be required
  • Availability to work approximately 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
