General Manager, Process Safety Testing

Lead DEKRA’s Princeton process safety testing laboratory, with responsibility for its P&L, safety, quality, and daily operations. Guide business growth, technical delivery, and development of a 15–25-person team.

Tavsif

  • Direct the on-site business, workforce, safety, and technical operations of DEKRA’s Princeton Process Safety Testing Laboratory.
  • Manage site P&L, annual operating plans, forecasts, capital priorities, revenue, margins, and budget results.
  • Grow the site by aligning market opportunities with pricing, capacity, staffing, and investment decisions.
  • Oversee daily laboratory operations alongside managers and technical leads.
  • Set and track safety, quality, turnaround, backlog, throughput, capacity, utilization, delivery, and financial measures.
  • Standardize and improve workflows from initial inquiry and test selection through quoting, project setup, scheduling, testing, reporting, invoicing, and collections handoffs.
  • Introduce digital or AI-supported improvements when appropriate.
  • Oversee plans for equipment maintenance, repair, reliability, calibration, spare parts, and capital replacement.
  • Align staffing and skills with demand while building laboratory capacity that can scale.
  • Maintain ISO/IEC 17025 and other applicable accreditations and certifications.
  • Ensure adherence to quality systems, government regulations, permits, controlled-material rules, and internal policies.
  • Promote DEKRA safety programs and a psychologically safe workplace.
  • Provide technical leadership in process safety testing and connect laboratory work to customer needs.
  • Coach and develop managers, technical specialists, engineers, technicians, administrative staff, and emerging leaders.
  • Set routines for site updates, operating reviews, one-to-ones, and issue escalation.
  • Lead organizational change and transfer knowledge across the team.
  • Build a shared Process Safety culture across Testing, Consulting, Sales, Marketing, and shared services.
  • Supervise 15–25 employees, including three frontline managers.
  • Report to the VP of Process Safety Labs and Consulting.

Talablar

  • Bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, chemistry, or a related technical discipline.
  • At least 10 years of progressive experience in process safety testing, laboratory operations, technical services, engineering operations, or a related field, including people leadership.
  • Experience leading an operation or laboratory with responsibility for P&L, budgets, forecasting, and capital planning.
  • Skill in using data and operating metrics to guide decisions and improve business results.
  • Strong electrical and mechanical knowledge.
  • Ability to troubleshoot equipment failures, find root causes, and implement practical fixes.
  • Working knowledge of hazardous laboratory operations.
  • Experience with combustible dust, chemical reaction hazards, flammability, thermal stability, or related testing is strongly preferred.
  • Ability to improve operations through standard work, metrics, Lean or Kaizen methods, capacity planning, and equipment reliability practices.
  • Commercial judgment and experience supporting technical sales, key accounts, proposals, pricing, and business development in technical services.
  • Strong leadership, communication, coaching, and change-management capabilities.
  • Ability to work across Sales, Marketing, Finance, HR, Legal, IT, and global technical teams.
  • Ability to balance customer needs, technical risks, employee development, operational demands, and financial results.
  • Ability to work in an office and hazardous laboratory settings and perform extended computer-based work.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, lift 25–50 pounds, move through a full range of motion, and evacuate buildings quickly during emergencies.
  • Ability to work around or be exposed to chemicals, fumes, dust, allergens, irritants, controlled substances, pharmaceuticals, loud noise, temperature extremes, and chemical, electrical, or mechanical hazards.
  • Domestic travel is required, estimated at up to 10%; limited international travel may also be required.
  • This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship.
