Join ShopBack as a Software Engineer Intern building AI-powered tools for its shopping, rewards, and payments platform. Develop agent workflows, evaluations, and production software used by millions of members.

Description

  • Deliver a defined feature from design to production with guidance from a mentor.
  • Use coding agents to accelerate development while reviewing, testing, and validating their output.
  • Create a skill, tool, or agent workflow that remains in use after the internship.
  • Develop evaluations and tests to assess the quality of AI-powered work.
  • Release production code serving millions of members worldwide.
  • Design and coordinate AI-agent solutions from the start.
  • Document AI projects through a repository, demo, video, or write-up covering the problem, implementation, failures, fixes, and outcome.

Requirements

  • Engineering internship opportunity.
  • Strong programming fundamentals, including clean code, design patterns, data structures, APIs, and testing.
  • Experience building projects beyond coursework, including side projects, hackathons, open-source contributions, or freelance work.
  • Hands-on applied AI development, such as using an LLM API, creating a custom agent or MCP server, automating an end-to-end task, or developing evaluations to compare prompts or models.
  • A curious, skeptical approach to assessing AI-generated responses.
  • Ability and motivation to learn rapidly and ask thoughtful questions.
  • The role uses TypeScript, Node.js, Postgres, Kafka, Kubernetes, GitLab, Datadog, Claude Code, and MCP.
  • Applicants must be located in the United States, with New York City, New York specified for this position.
