Senior Data Engineering Consultant

Lead the design of scalable data pipelines, architectures, and analytics solutions for client teams. Clarkston Consulting serves organizations in life sciences, consumer products, and retail.

Description

  • Partner with solution architects, developers, analysts, and data scientists on data and analytics work.
  • Lead client projects with stakeholders and technical teams to define and deliver data solutions.
  • Build and tune scalable data pipelines and architectures.
  • Create and maintain analytics and reporting models, including star and snowflake schemas.
  • Turn business needs into technical data solutions.
  • Maintain consistent, effective data delivery architecture across projects.
  • Address data needs across teams, systems, and products.
  • Strengthen data processes, scalability, performance, reliability, and automation.
  • Lead, develop, and mentor data engineering teams.
  • Help shape client solutions, estimates, proposals, and delivery.
  • Contribute to project plans, progress updates, and consulting work.
  • Receive mentorship and take part in internal and external professional development.

Requirements

  • At least 3 years of experience as a data engineer or in a related data-focused role.
  • Advanced SQL skills, including relational databases and query writing.
  • Experience building and optimizing big data pipelines, architectures, and datasets.
  • Experience with data modeling and schema design, including star and snowflake schemas.
  • Experience conducting root cause analysis on internal and external data and processes.
  • Strong analytical skills with structured and unstructured datasets.
  • Experience building processes for data transformation, structures, metadata, dependencies, and workload management.
  • Experience manipulating and processing large, disconnected datasets to extract value.
  • Working knowledge of message queues, stream processing, and highly scalable big data stores.
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams in a dynamic environment.
  • Experience with Databricks, Spark, Snowflake, Airflow, and Kafka.
  • Experience with Azure or AWS cloud services.
  • Experience with Scala, Python, Java, and/or C++.
  • Strong written and verbal communication with technical and business audiences.
  • Demonstrated consulting and client-facing experience.
  • Experience in life sciences, consumer products, and/or retail is preferred.
  • Graduate degree in computer science, statistics, informatics, information systems, or an equivalent field.
  • Willingness to travel an estimated 30–50%.
