Senior Technical Methodology Lead Engineer

Lead rigorous workforce research and methodology for AlphaGov’s public-sector consulting engagements. Develop analytical approaches, oversee analysts, and turn evidence into recommendations for government agencies.

Description

  • Convert client questions and solicitation requirements into rigorous research and analysis plans.
  • Set the data sources, sampling strategies, comparison groups, assumptions, and methods used in each engagement.
  • Direct analysts through data collection, preparation, analysis, and interpretation.
  • Define requirements for source records, reproducibility, limitations, and evidence behind conclusions.
  • Evaluate models, calculations, surveys, interview protocols, and other analytical deliverables.
  • Flag methodological weaknesses, missing data, and claims that go beyond the supporting evidence.
  • Engage and manage specialized experts for focused technical assignments.
  • Turn research findings into actionable recommendations for agency decision-makers.
  • Participate in client presentations, technical reviews, and stakeholder workshops.
  • Support proposals with technical strategies, staffing plans, and effort estimates.
  • Create reusable methodologies, analytical templates, and training resources.
  • Partner with the independent QA lead to address findings before delivery.

Requirements

  • Expertise in at least one relevant area, such as labor economics, workforce analytics, public policy research, compensation analysis, economic development, or program evaluation.
  • Background designing and delivering applied research or analytical consulting projects.
  • Advanced quantitative ability, including assessment of data quality, assumptions, and methodological constraints.
  • Experience working with public datasets and recording analytical processes for independent reproduction.
  • Ability to relate analytical results to operational or policy decisions.
  • Experience managing analysts or coordinating multidisciplinary technical teams.
  • Excellent technical writing skills and the ability to communicate complex results to nontechnical audiences.
  • Relevant education or comparable professional experience demonstrated through completed work.
  • Preferred: Graduate training in economics, statistics, public policy, public administration, or a related field.
  • Preferred: Experience supporting government agencies or other public-sector organizations.
  • Preferred: Familiarity with workforce and economic data from sources such as BLS, Census, and state labor market information.
  • Preferred: Proficiency with analytical tools including R, Python, SQL, or advanced Excel.
  • Preferred: Experience in mixed-method research, survey design, compensation benchmarking, or evaluation design.
  • Preferred: Experience creating reusable analytical methods and mentoring delivery teams.
