Senior Data Engineer, Databricks (Remote in Spain)

Senior Data Engineer responsible for building cloud-native data platforms with Databricks, Apache Spark, and Azure. The role focuses on scalable data solutions supporting knowmad mood’s digital transformation work.

Description

  • Design and develop scalable cloud-based data architectures with a focus on performance, security, reliability, and cost efficiency
  • Lead data engineering best practices using Databricks, Apache Spark, and modern data platform technologies
  • Create reusable ingestion frameworks and reference patterns for integrating enterprise applications, APIs, streaming platforms, and external sources
  • Build, maintain, and optimize data pipelines, platform services, and reference implementations
  • Provide technical guidance and mentor teams on ETL/ELT processes, data engineering standards, and platform capabilities
  • Implement data governance, cataloging, and quality monitoring to maintain reliable, well-documented datasets
  • Partner with Data Architects, Data Scientists, Analysts, and business teams to turn requirements into scalable technical solutions
  • Drive continuous improvements across the data platform, development standards, and operational excellence

Requirements

  • More than five years of hands-on experience in Data Engineering and Big Data environments
  • Extensive experience with Databricks and Apache Spark, including PySpark
  • Experience designing and implementing data solutions on Microsoft Azure
  • Strong SQL and Python skills, including clean code and object-oriented programming principles
  • Experience with Azure Event Hubs and Kafka
  • Strong knowledge of dimensional modeling and Data Warehouse design principles
  • Experience building scalable, reliable, and maintainable cloud-native data platforms
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Ability to influence and guide teams without direct responsibility for project delivery
  • Proactive, solution-oriented approach with a focus on continuous improvement
  • Advanced English proficiency
  • Experience with Databricks Lakehouse architecture, Delta Lake, Unity Catalog, Databricks Workflows, Data Governance, and DataOps is valued
  • Databricks certifications, such as Databricks Certified Data Engineer Associate or Professional, are valued
