Remote Property Adjuster – Ohio | Erie Insurance

Investigate, estimate, and resolve property claims for Erie Insurance across an assigned Ohio territory. The role also supports catastrophe response and includes structured property-adjuster training.

Description

  • Manage property claims within assigned authority limits
  • Communicate with policyholders about property claims
  • Investigate claims, interview insureds and witnesses, inspect damage, and prepare estimates
  • Assess coverage and total losses, then determine, issue, or deny payments
  • Establish and maintain appropriate claim reserves
  • Collect and evaluate reports, statements, records, and other relevant documentation
  • Maintain complete claim files and submit final closure reports
  • Recognize potential subrogation cases and begin the required actions
  • Manage claims throughout the assigned territory through final resolution
  • Collaborate with agents and district sales managers
  • Handle property damage and coverage claims, including matters that may proceed to litigation
  • Negotiate with plaintiff attorneys or coordinate cases with defense counsel
  • Build and use knowledge of property-claim estimating standards and procedures
  • Participate in industry training and other required development sessions
  • Complete Technical Learning Center Training within the first year of employment
  • Serve on the Catastrophe Team when assigned
  • Complete the 15-week Property Adjuster Trainee program, with classroom, practical, and field training in Erie, Pennsylvania

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED plus two years of claims-handling experience, or an equivalent combination, required
  • High school diploma or GED with successful completion of ERIE-sponsored formal education
  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Must reside in the assigned territory unless the company approves a change
  • Must accept catastrophe assignments, including possible short-notice travel to other locations for more than two consecutive weeks
  • Must be willing to pursue and complete Technical Learning Center Training
  • AIC 33 and AIC 35 completion preferred
  • Must be willing to obtain and maintain all required licenses
  • Valid driver’s license and satisfactory driving record required
  • Personal protective equipment must be used as required
  • Ability to move more than 50 pounds with lifting-aid equipment
  • Ability to climb and access elevated areas
  • Ability to drive frequently
  • Ability to lift and move items weighing 0–20 and 20–50 pounds
  • Proficiency with manual keying, data entry, information input, and computer use
  • Ability to push, pull, and move wheeled objects or equipment
  • Regular and dependable attendance required
