Lead Software Engineer, C#/.NET and Azure

Lead backend engineering for CPI’s cloud-based learning platform, building C#/.NET microservices and Azure services. Guide technical delivery, operational excellence, and responsible adoption of AI-assisted engineering practices.

Description

  • Act as the technical lead for a Product Engineering squad supporting CPI’s Integrated Training and Learning platform
  • Build backend services in C#/.NET microservices with CQRS and event-driven patterns on Azure
  • Contribute across the full stack, including React, as project needs require
  • Turn product goals into practical technical solutions that deliver customer and business value
  • Own technical designs covering event contracts, Azure SQL models, and React integration
  • Break epics into independently deployable work and support frequent, low-risk releases
  • Write production code regularly and solve complex, ambiguous technical challenges
  • Break down work, map dependencies, estimate effort, and evaluate delivery risks
  • Present squad work to business stakeholders and explain its measurable impact
  • Own service reliability through SLOs, monitoring, dashboards, on-call participation, and incident leadership
  • Run blameless incident reviews and drive completion of resulting actions
  • Separate ITL domain data from upstream enterprise systems and maintain its flow into the data warehouse
  • Address technical debt, accelerate build/test/deploy cycles, and automate repetitive operations
  • Uphold secure coding, WCAG 2.1 AA accessibility, and performance requirements
  • Drive adoption of AI-assisted development tools and define appropriate review and testing practices
  • Help shape the Product Engineering AI strategy and pilot new tools and methods
  • Find practical AI applications within the ITL product and internal engineering tools
  • Define engineering expectations for reviews, testing, documentation, and architecture
  • Develop engineers through pairing, design reviews, mentoring, and actionable feedback
  • Sponsor experiments and proofs of concept, then lead retrospective discussions
  • Coordinate with squad leads, the Platform team, and the Principal Software Engineer
  • Take on other duties related to the position as assigned

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer engineering, computer science, a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience
  • At least seven years of professional experience building and operating production web applications and distributed services
  • At least two years serving as a technical lead, tech lead, or senior engineer accountable for a team’s technical direction and delivery
  • Five or more years of hands-on C# and .NET experience, including ASP.NET Core and .NET 6+, developing backend services and APIs
  • Strong knowledge of distributed, event-driven systems, including message brokers such as Azure Service Bus, idempotency, retries, sagas, and eventual consistency
  • Experience applying CQRS, event sourcing, and/or domain-driven design, including bounded contexts and event contracts
  • Working knowledge of React and modern JavaScript/TypeScript for designing, reviewing, and contributing to front-end work
  • Experience modeling relational data and optimizing SQL Server or Azure SQL performance
  • Experience deploying and operating services on Azure or a comparable cloud platform
  • Experience improving CI/CD pipelines, automated testing strategies, and continuous delivery
  • Experience leading production incident response and blameless post-incident reviews
  • Experience mentoring engineers and facilitating technical design and code reviews
  • Knowledge of observability practices and security-oriented design patterns
  • Daily experience with AI-assisted development tools and the ability to guide their effective, responsible use
  • Evidence of yearly personal development through an accredited software engineering course, related certification, or completed learning project
  • Ability to provide technical leadership without formal management authority
  • Ability to balance immediate delivery needs with long-term platform health
  • Ability to evaluate technologies, facilitate discussion, and build agreement on technical standards and solutions
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Proven ability to attract, develop, and retain high-performing engineers
  • Experience with a learning management system, EdTech, or large-scale B2B SaaS product is preferred
  • Experience separating a product platform from an ERP or CRM system is preferred
  • Experience with infrastructure as code and containerized workloads is preferred
  • Experience with web accessibility is preferred
  • Azure certifications are preferred
