Epic Operational Database Administrator

Maintain InterSystems IRIS databases that support hospital operations, with a focus on production reliability, recovery, upgrades, and incident response. Join Rackspace Technology in a remote U.S. role supporting Epic environments.

Description

  • Install, configure, maintain, and support Epic operational database environments across production, testing, training, and disaster recovery.
  • Carry out approved environment refreshes and routine maintenance.
  • Investigate database growth, resource constraints, storage performance, and system alerts.
  • Use Epic monitoring tools such as System Pulse and RedAlert to find and resolve issues before they disrupt operations.
  • Maintain and validate database backups, journaling, and recovery procedures.
  • Take part in high-availability and disaster recovery testing, including documented failover and restoration exercises.
  • Implement Epic upgrades, database updates, and maintenance changes through approved change-management processes.
  • Complete documented testing, validation, and rollback procedures.
  • Diagnose production issues and coordinate escalations with Epic and InterSystems.
  • Report on impact, restoration progress, and corrective actions.
  • Automate recurring administrative tasks.
  • Keep configuration documentation and runbooks up to date.
  • Work with infrastructure teams on capacity planning and eliminating recurring problems.
  • Join the scheduled on-call rotation and support planned after-hours maintenance, upgrades, and recovery exercises.

Requirements

  • At least three years of experience as an Epic ODBA in a hospital, with direct responsibility for live production systems.
  • Current Epic Operational Database Administration certification, with applicable continuing education and release requirements maintained.
  • Hands-on experience administering InterSystems IRIS databases for Epic, including performance troubleshooting, backup validation, and recovery.
  • Working proficiency in Linux or Unix administration and shell scripting.
  • Experience with Epic monitoring and administration tools, including System Pulse and RedAlert.
  • Experience supporting production incidents and carrying out controlled maintenance in a hospital setting.
  • Strong documentation, communication, and prioritization skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate across technical teams.
  • Experience in large, multisite hospital environments, Epic implementations or major upgrades, automation, or cloud is preferred.
  • Follow organizational requirements for security, patient data protection, incident management, and change control.
