Associate Director, Responsible AI – Verizon (Hybrid)

Lead Verizon’s enterprise Responsible AI program, governing safe, ethical, and equitable AI across global networks and customer experiences. Build governance, audit, compliance, and risk controls aligned with emerging standards and regulations.

Description

  • Lead Verizon’s enterprise-wide program to ensure AI and machine learning technologies are developed, deployed, and scaled safely, ethically, and equitably
  • Build, expand, and oversee Verizon’s Responsible AI framework in alignment with standards such as the NIST AI Risk Management Framework
  • Co-chair the AI Governance Council
  • Lead strategic evaluations of high-impact AI use cases
  • Set go/no-go requirements for model deployment
  • Create and operate AI audit processes addressing bias mitigation, algorithmic fairness, transparency, and explainability
  • Work with Legal, Privacy, and Public Policy teams to address AI regulatory compliance
  • Direct cross-functional AI red-teaming and stress-testing programs
  • Partner with machine learning engineers and product managers to integrate Responsible AI checkpoints into CI/CD pipelines and the MLOps lifecycle
  • Create training programs covering AI ethics, data privacy, and responsible development practices

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or at least four years of relevant work experience
  • At least eight years of relevant experience in technology policy, data governance, legal, risk management, or data science
  • At least three years of enterprise-scale leadership experience in AI Governance, Responsible AI, Tech Ethics, or AI/ML Risk Management
  • Strong knowledge of machine learning lifecycles, generative AI technologies, and the ethical risks associated with large language models
  • Experience converting global AI and data regulations, including NIST AI RMF, the EU AI Act, GDPR, and CCPA, into enterprise compliance strategies
  • Experience working in a highly regulated industry such as telecommunications, financial services, or healthcare
  • Current privacy or risk certification, such as CIPP/US or CIPT, or a relevant AI ethics credential
  • Demonstrated experience representing an organization in industry consortiums, academic partnerships, or standards bodies focused on AI ethics and safety
