Lead Travelers’ insurance data engineering platforms across Databricks, dbt and AWS. Guide engineers and Tech Leads while driving architecture, delivery, governance and platform transformation.

- Set the technical direction for Travelers’ data platform on Databricks, dbt and AWS.
- Define medallion architecture standards spanning Raw, Stage, Domain and Data Product layers.
- Lead architecture, design decisions, code quality and technical delivery for Tech Lead projects.
- Coach and guide Tech Leads on technical matters.
- Manage and develop EDPs and junior engineers through regular one-to-ones, performance feedback, learning plans, code reviews and career support.
- Work with Tech Leads to assign EDPs and junior engineers to projects that build their skills.
- Apply Claude and other AI tools to speed up source-to-target mapping, design, documentation and validation, with human review and engineering standards in place.
- Coordinate with product, business and architecture partners to prioritize and sequence work across teams.
- Advance CI/CD, testing, data quality and observability practices.
- Ensure production support is ready and services remain operationally stable.
- Work with the hiring manager to plan staffing across onshore employees and offshore contractors.

- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, a related STEM discipline, or equivalent education or work experience.
- At least five years of data engineering experience.
- At least six additional years of data engineering experience.
- Practical expertise with Databricks, dbt and AWS.
- Experience managing and developing early-career engineers, including coaching, performance management and structured skills development.
- Experience leading technical work across multiple teams or Tech Leads without direct reporting authority.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to influence technical and business audiences.
- Unity Catalog, Delta Lake and Databricks governance experience is preferred.
- Experience with orchestration and CI/CD tools is preferred.
- Insurance or financial services experience is preferred.
- Experience managing blended onshore and offshore teams is preferred.
- Practical use of generative AI tools such as Claude in data engineering is preferred.
- Experience with early-career or rotational development programs such as EDP is preferred.
- Relevant Databricks or AWS certifications are preferred.
