Senior Software Development Manager, Portfolio Construction Tools and Insights

Lead engineering strategy and delivery for Capital Group’s portfolio-construction tools and insights. Guide architecture, talent development, AI adoption, and reliable investor decision-support capabilities.

Description

  • Lead the engineering organization responsible for Tools and Insights within Risk-Aware Portfolio Construction
  • Set the roadmap, grow engineering talent, improve delivery, and provide reliable, scalable solutions for investors
  • Align priorities and turn strategy into execution with Product, investment professionals, and engineering leaders
  • Own the long-term strategy and roadmap for RAPC’s Tools and Insights capabilities
  • Direct engineering delivery for investor-facing tools and insight services
  • Create operating mechanisms to track roadmap progress, organizational capacity, delivery health, execution risks, and outcomes
  • Advance reliability, quality, performance, supportability, security, maintainability, and continuous improvement
  • Set architectural direction and guide reusable components, shared platforms, and long-term platform evolution
  • Promote AI and agentic engineering practices throughout the software development lifecycle
  • Work with stakeholders and investment professionals to identify opportunities, validate solutions, and prioritize investments
  • Coordinate with IG Tech and partner organizations to deliver integrated capabilities
  • Present strategy, progress, risks, and trade-offs clearly to stakeholders
  • Build and develop a high-performing engineering organization
  • Coach engineering managers and technical leaders
  • Improve portfolio construction through tools and insights that help investors assess opportunities and make informed decisions
  • Apply AI and emerging technologies with appropriate rigor, reliability, and governance

Requirements

  • Strong partnership skills, with the ability to shape strategy, co-own roadmaps, and connect technology investments to business outcomes
  • Thorough knowledge of software engineering fundamentals, including distributed systems, cloud architecture, APIs, testing, observability, security, and operational excellence
  • Experience developing products that combine investor-facing experiences with platforms, services, and data capabilities
  • Background in investment workflows, portfolio construction, risk analytics, performance measurement, financial data, or other high-stakes decision-support environments
  • Ability to work through ambiguity and turn complex information into clear direction
  • Ability to set standards and accountability while giving teams room to innovate
  • Experience with agile and metrics-driven engineering practices
  • Excellent communication skills across engineering, Product, investment professionals, and senior leadership
  • Experience developing engineering managers, technical leaders, and senior individual contributors
  • Pragmatic approach to balancing long-term architecture with immediate business needs
