Residential Mental Health Counselor

Provide medication support, crisis response, and daily living assistance in Vinfen residential programs. Help adults facing mental health and behavioral health challenges build skills for independent living.

Description

  • Deliver direct support in a GLE/SIE residential setting.
  • Help residents address barriers and prepare for independent living.
  • Carry out treatment plan interventions as directed by the team LPHA clinician.
  • Administer, document, store, and dispose of medications in line with MAP requirements and company policy.
  • Provide crisis intervention and contact on-call backup when needed.
  • Keep the residence safe, comfortable, clean, and compliant with licensing standards.
  • Welcome new residents and help orient new staff.
  • Work with integrated team members to meet residents’ needs.
  • Complete daily assignments from the program director.
  • Use recovery-oriented, person-centered, harm-reduction, trauma-informed, culturally competent, and strengths-based approaches.
  • Assist with meal preparation, site upkeep, social engagement, and positive relationships among residents.
  • Advocate for residents and act as a resource for neighbors.
  • Take part in training, supervision, and staff meetings.
  • Complete required records and incident reports.
  • Contribute to quality improvement objectives.
  • Support evidence-based approaches, including Motivational Interviewing, Housing First, Stages of Change, WRAP, Seeking Safety, and cognitive behavioral interventions.
  • Handle other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • An associate degree in a human services discipline is preferred.
  • One to two years of relevant human services experience is preferred.
  • Bilingual or bicultural applicants and people with lived experience of psychiatric conditions are encouraged to apply.
  • A valid driver’s license is required when employment begins.
  • Must be at least 21 years old.
  • Must have held a valid US driver’s license for at least six months.
  • If using a personal vehicle, must have adequate insurance and a safe driving record.
  • Must pass a driver background screening.
  • CPR certification must be obtained within two weeks of hire.
  • First Aid certification must be obtained within two weeks of hire.
  • MAP certification must be obtained within 150 days of hire.
  • Must be able to stand, walk, bend, kneel, stoop, crouch, crawl, climb, lift at least 25 pounds, and assist residents with daily living tasks.
  • Must be able to use a computer and office equipment.
  • Must be able to communicate with residents, staff, and external representatives.
  • Must have close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth vision, and be able to adjust focus.
