Lead operational technology architecture for Xcel Energy’s mission-critical systems in a hybrid Minneapolis role. Shape technology roadmaps, integrations, governance, cybersecurity, and modernization across highly regulated environments.

Description

  • Lead architecture for mission-critical technology platforms in highly available, regulated, and operationally critical environments.
  • Develop and implement technology strategies that advance reliable operations, modernization, cybersecurity, compliance, and sustainability.
  • Own technology roadmaps covering capability growth, platform modernization, technical debt reduction, standardization, and operational sustainability.
  • Facilitate architecture and design discussions for complex initiatives involving multiple platforms, domains, business functions, and stakeholder groups.
  • Evaluate and guide solution architectures so they support enterprise strategy, architecture principles, roadmaps, cybersecurity controls, and operational requirements.
  • Strengthen architecture governance to improve design quality, consistency, and long-term sustainability.
  • Direct integration architecture across operational systems, enterprise applications, data platforms, cloud services, and external partners.
  • Advise on real-time and near-real-time data exchange, event-driven design, telemetry, workflow automation, and complex system integration.
  • Establish integration patterns, architecture standards, and practices that improve interoperability and reduce technical complexity.
  • Guide architecture decisions for identity, access control, trust boundaries, infrastructure and network security, cybersecurity, and secure operational access.
  • Assess and mitigate architecture risks that could affect reliability, cybersecurity, compliance, operations, or business continuity.
  • Embed security-by-design, operational readiness, observability, supportability, and resilience throughout the technology lifecycle.
  • Ensure designs include and validate monitoring, alerting, logging, recovery, performance, and support capabilities before production release.
  • Use domain architecture practices to improve reliability, availability, maintainability, operational efficiency, and user experience.
  • Coordinate work across architecture, engineering, operations, cybersecurity, infrastructure, vendors, and business teams.
  • Shape enterprise technology decisions and present architectural vision, tradeoffs, risks, and recommendations to technical and executive audiences.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in technology, science, business, or a related field, or four years of equivalent experience.
  • At least 10 years of related functional experience.
  • Excellent communication skills across organizational levels and technical backgrounds.
  • Strong relationship management and collaboration skills, with demonstrated success driving innovation and business results across organizations.
  • Broad architecture expertise spanning networks, infrastructure, software, hosting models, applications, data, mobile platforms, and security.
  • Strong understanding of enterprise architecture across software, hardware, networks, integrations, data, hosting models, and platform types.
  • Deep expertise in at least two architecture disciplines, such as SOA, TOGAF, BPM, data analytics, standards and governance, or enterprise architecture frameworks.
  • Current knowledge of emerging technology trends within the relevant area of expertise.
  • Advanced experience with architectural reviews and technology lifecycle management.
  • Experience serving in a lead role for project delivery and solutions architecture.
  • Experience owning strategic roadmap planning and simplifying technology ecosystems.
  • Preferred: At least five years of architectural leadership for real-time SCADA systems.
  • Preferred experience designing operational technology, industrial control systems, real-time platforms, automation environments, or other mission-critical operational systems.
  • Preferred experience in utilities, energy, manufacturing, oil and gas, transportation, telecommunications, industrial automation, data centers, or other critical infrastructure sectors.
  • Preferred experience with OT platforms including SCADA, ADMS, EMS, DEMS, DERMS, OMS, historian systems, or operational data platforms.
  • Preferred experience with Schneider Electric, GE, Siemens, OSI, Aveva, PI, or comparable OT and industrial technology ecosystems.
  • Preferred participation in major OT, industrial, or mission-critical upgrades, modernization programs, cloud or data enablement initiatives, or platform transformations.
