Pickle Robot Company
Pickle Robot Company
Pickle Robot Company develops robotics for the supply chain, logistics, and manufacturing industries. Its systems combine physical AI, generative AI, machine vision, and robotic manipulation to automate physically demanding warehouse work. The company’s flagship autonomous robot unloads non-palletized goods from shipping containers, helping reduce manual strain while improving warehouse productivity. With a team of 11–50 employees and a recently completed $50 million Series B, Pickle Robot Company is expanding its product capabilities and business reach.

Junior–Mid-Level Software Engineer, Task and Motion Planning (Hybrid)

Develop C++ and Python planning software for warehouse robots, with a focus on grasping, collision checking, and task sequencing. Help move robotics algorithms from prototypes into reliable real-world deployments.

Description

  • Build and maintain production C++ and Python planning components covering motion planning, grasp selection, collision checking, and task sequencing.
  • Carry algorithms from initial prototypes through deployment while taking responsibility for architecture, performance, and reliability.
  • Measure and improve performance-critical code to meet real-time cycle-time requirements on robot hardware.
  • Create infrastructure for testing, simulation, and benchmarking.
  • Investigate production issues through logs and build-triage tools, then resolve their underlying causes.
  • Raise code quality through thoughtful design reviews, code reviews, and sound engineering practices.
  • Develop fast, dependable, thoroughly tested planning systems for physical robots.
  • Help advance task and motion planning for robot grasping and safe movement through changing trailers.

Requirements

  • Bring 2–4 years of experience shipping production software, primarily with modern C++17 or later, plus working proficiency in Python.
  • Have strong foundations in software design, data structures, algorithms, and performance optimization.
  • Demonstrate ownership of software components across design, implementation, testing, deployment, and ongoing support.
  • Understand concurrency, memory management, and performance-profiling tools.
  • Show genuine interest in motion planning, manipulation, and grasping, with the motivation to develop deeper algorithmic expertise alongside domain specialists.
  • Be comfortable working close to hardware and diagnosing issues that cross the boundary between software and the physical system.
  • Hands-on experience with motion planning or manipulation, such as sampling-based or optimization-based planners, trajectory generation, or grasp planning, is a plus.
  • Experience with CUDA or GPU performance optimization is a plus.
  • Familiarity with robotics libraries or frameworks such as OMPL, Drake, FCL, or Pinocchio is a plus.
  • Knowledge of 3D geometry, kinematics, or linear algebra using Eigen or a similar library is a plus.
  • Experience with simulation environments and large-scale regression testing for robotics or other safety-critical systems is a plus.
  • Experience deploying software to physical robots in production is a plus.
