Data Platform Engineer – Hybrid Australia

Build and operate EatClub’s Databricks lakehouse and dependable data pipelines. Your work will support analytics, data science, governance and better decisions across a growing restaurant technology business.

Description

  • Develop and run bronze-layer ingestion using source integrations, CDC streams and third-party APIs
  • Manage schema changes, backfills and data replays
  • Take ownership of orchestration, including schedules, dependencies, retries, alerting and dataset SLAs
  • Strengthen CI/CD with trunk-based development, pull-request validation, deployment gates and consistent environment promotion
  • Administer platform governance through grants, lineage, tags, row- and column-level controls and secure external sharing
  • Improve cost and throughput by sizing warehouses and clusters appropriately and tuning partitioning, clustering and incremental processing
  • Create data-quality and observability controls for freshness, volume and schema, with failure alerts and root-cause investigation
  • Enable analysts and data scientists to use the platform independently
  • Partner with analytics and data science teams that rely on the platform for models and dashboards
  • Use AI tools to accelerate development, testing, migrations and code review

Requirements

  • Demonstrated ability to write and optimise SQL for commercial-scale products
  • Advanced Python proficiency
  • Practical experience building and operating production data pipelines on cloud data platforms
  • Experience with orchestration and scheduling tools such as Databricks Workflows, Airflow, Dagster or comparable systems
  • Experience diagnosing and recovering failed overnight jobs
  • Experience ingesting data efficiently from internal APIs and third-party tools while preserving strict integrity
  • Strong foundation in Git, CI/CD, trunk-based development, testing and broader software engineering practices
  • Comfort working in an AI-first development model using Claude Code, agentic workflows and AI throughout the daily development cycle
  • Databricks and dbt Core experience is advantageous
  • AWS familiarity is advantageous
  • Experience optimising Spark or Databricks cost and performance, including partitioning, liquid clustering and warehouse sizing, is advantageous
  • Streaming or CDC experience with technologies such as Structured Streaming, Debezium or Delta Live Tables is advantageous
  • Experience applying data-quality, security and documentation practices is advantageous
  • Experience running AI and LLM experiments is advantageous
