Engineering Manager, Data Center Operations

Descriere

  • Lead a distributed team of data center engineers across U.S. sites
  • Oversee data center sites from new builds through production operations and secure hardware retirement
  • Set up 24/7 on-call coverage, handover procedures, and incident SLAs
  • Escalate site incidents, coordinate engineers and vendors, and lead root-cause reviews
  • Manage build schedules from site readiness and hardware delivery through installation, cabling, validation, and production handoff
  • Coordinate integrators, contractors, and colocation providers on new builds
  • Supervise vendors on-site during key build stages
  • Maintain hardware availability and oversee break-fix work, repairs, RMAs, and spare-parts planning
  • Manage colocation providers and vendors, including escalations, remote-hands services, power and cooling issues, and contract performance
  • Keep DCIM records complete for racks, power, cabling, assets, and lifecycle status
  • Work with tooling teams to establish DCIM and documentation standards
  • Lead on-site decommissioning from equipment removal and serial checks through chain of custody and secure destruction handoff
  • Track IT asset disposition vendor compliance evidence and destruction certificates
  • Maintain physical security, access controls, chain-of-custody procedures, and compliance obligations
  • Provide accurate, timely evidence for audits
  • Find manual work and work with automation teams to remove it
  • Assess AI-assisted workflows for incident triage, root-cause analysis, documentation, and compliance evidence
  • Run weekly business reviews and prepare monthly and quarterly reports for the Director and peer leaders
  • Coordinate with network, systems, hardware, supply chain, and infrastructure engineering teams

Cerințe

  • At least 6 years in data center operations, including 3 or more years directly managing on-site technical teams
  • Experience leading teams distributed across locations
  • A record of operating multi-site data center fleets at hyperscale or large-cloud scale
  • Practical experience with IT hardware, including servers, network devices, optics, and cabling
  • Technical expertise to coach engineers and assess vendor and contractor work
  • Experience overseeing new data center or cage builds, ongoing operations, and hardware decommissioning
  • Experience managing providers at Tier III or higher colocation facilities
  • Experience managing 24/7 on-call operations and incident escalations
  • Strong Layer 1 and Layer 2 fundamentals, including structured cabling, fiber and optics, patching standards, switching basics, and physical connectivity troubleshooting
  • Knowledge of data center power and cooling, rack design, high-density deployments, and hardware lifecycle management
  • Strong knowledge of DCIM and asset management systems
  • Working knowledge of enterprise data center security and compliance frameworks
  • Strong program management across vendors, sites, and time-bound workstreams
  • A record of reducing operational toil through tooling or process redesign
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, including business reviews and leadership reporting
  • Ability to travel regularly to data center sites, with more frequent travel during build periods
  • Authorization to receive software or technology controlled under U.S. export laws without export-license sponsorship may be required
  • Preferred: experience establishing a data center operations function or region from the ground up
  • Preferred: background at a hyperscaler, cloud provider, major CDN, or similarly fast-growing infrastructure organization
  • Preferred: experience with ITAD vendor programs and secure destruction requirements
  • Preferred: experience with PagerDuty or similar on-call and incident tools
  • Preferred: experience with NetBox or Nlyte, Jira workflows, and Confluence documentation
  • Preferred: experience with remote-hands programs and vendor scorecards
  • Preferred: experience with hardware diagnostics, burn-in, or automated build validation
