Workers' Compensation Claims Specialist (California Remote)

Manage non-complex workers’ compensation claims remotely from California for CorVel Corporation, a national risk-management provider. Review coverage, compensability, reserves, payments, and claim status under the guidance of senior claims professionals.

Description

  • Handle lower-level, non-complex, non-problematic workers’ compensation claims within delegated authority limits
  • Manage assigned claims under the direct supervision of a senior claims professional
  • Receive workers’ compensation claims and verify coverage and claim acknowledgment
  • Assess claim validity and compensability
  • Set reserves and approve payments within authorized limits
  • Manage non-complex lost-time workers’ compensation claims with close oversight
  • Provide claim-status updates to customers, claimants, and clients
  • Follow client and carrier requirements
  • Take part in claims reviews when needed
  • Support claims professionals handling more complex or problematic claims
  • Follow workplace safety rules and regulations
  • Complete other assigned projects and duties

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree, or an equivalent combination of education and related experience
  • At least one year of industry experience and preferably claims-management experience
  • Maintain a current Workers’ Compensation license or certification throughout employment with CorVel
  • Demonstrated strength in written and verbal communication
  • Capacity to learn quickly and build knowledge of claims practices
  • Ability to recognize, analyze, and resolve problems
  • Computer proficiency and technical aptitude
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office, including Excel spreadsheets
  • Strong interpersonal, time-management, and organizational abilities
  • Ability to meet or surpass performance competencies
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
  • Spanish proficiency is preferred
