Vice President, Controller - Houston, TX On-Site

Leads accounting, financial controls, budgeting, reporting, and project finance for RailWorks Corporation’s construction and rail infrastructure operations.

Description

  • Provides expert guidance on site accounting and related financial matters
  • Oversees monthly, quarterly, annual, and periodic financial reporting, including budgets, forecasts, variance analyses, and financial statements
  • Supports construction project teams and manages their financial reporting and operational needs
  • Oversees financial management for joint ventures in both lead and minority roles
  • Maintains accurate financial records through controls aligned with company policies, GAAP, and Sarbanes-Oxley requirements
  • Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local reporting obligations
  • Oversees submissions to government and regulatory agencies
  • Develops audit analyses and serves as the primary liaison for internal and external auditors
  • Leads the month-end close process
  • Implements corporate accounting initiatives at the site level
  • Directs preparation of the annual operating budget
  • Conducts annual performance reviews for staff
  • Interviews, trains, and supports employees across policies, payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, job costing, and HR
  • Produces ad hoc analyses and contributes to special projects
  • Connects corporate accounting teams with field operations on financial matters
  • Leads staff and processes for the Major Projects finance and shared services hub
  • Directs group accounting and finance functions while supporting projects from bid development through completion

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance or accounting
  • CPA certification is a plus
  • At least seven years of senior-level finance or accounting experience
  • North American cross-border experience is preferred
  • Knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting, and cost-control principles
  • Experience with automated financial and accounting reporting systems
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local financial regulations
  • Working knowledge of percentage-of-completion accounting for construction contracts is preferred
  • General knowledge of HR practices and employment laws
  • Ability to analyze financial data and produce reports, statements, and projections
  • Working knowledge of short- and long-term budgeting and forecasting
  • Discretion, professionalism, and integrity in handling responsibilities
  • Ability to train and manage staff effectively
  • Ability to manage multiple projects under tight deadlines
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work remotely with managers and staff across multiple locations
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including advanced Excel skills
  • Willingness to travel approximately 15–30%
