UI Engineer, Unreal Engine Games (Remote - North Carolina)

Build C++-driven UI systems for AAA game development across Unreal Engine platforms. Partner with design and engineering teams to connect player-facing interfaces with gameplay, online, and web services.

Description

  • Design, plan, and deliver new UI systems and features
  • Develop reliable, maintainable C++ for player-facing interfaces
  • Work closely with UI artists, UX and technical UI designers, producers, and fellow engineers
  • Create and support data-driven UI architectures using patterns such as MVVM
  • Improve UI performance and investigate hitches and related bottlenecks
  • Troubleshoot problems spanning UI, gameplay, rendering, platform behavior, and connected systems
  • Use UMG, Slate, and the wider Unreal Engine UI framework
  • Connect interfaces to game and online systems by routing application data to player-facing experiences
  • Integrate with existing web services, endpoints, and online subsystems when required
  • Deliver features for PC and other supported platforms while accounting for input, platform behavior, and performance variation
  • Take part in code reviews and asynchronous technical discussions within a distributed engineering organization

Requirements

  • Strong professional proficiency in C++
  • Solid software fundamentals covering object-oriented design, data structures, architecture, and design patterns
  • Professional experience developing with Unreal Engine
  • Ability to explain and apply architectural patterns such as MVVM, MVC, or similar separations of data, logic, and presentation
  • Professional experience building UI systems or player-facing features
  • Strong grounding in UI development principles beyond general gameplay programming
  • Experience investigating bugs, performance issues, and runtime failures
  • Experience working with designers, artists, producers, and engineers outside your immediate discipline
  • Strong written communication for code reviews, asynchronous troubleshooting, technical documentation, and distributed development
  • Significant hands-on UI experience and a strong grasp of UI architecture and best practices for gameplay or generalist engineering roles
  • Preferred: experience with UMG and Slate
  • Preferred: experience using Unreal Insights
  • Preferred: familiarity with networking, online subsystems, or web services
  • Preferred: experience consuming or extending existing service endpoints
  • Preferred: experience developing UI for multiple platforms
  • Preferred: console development experience
  • Preferred: mobile development experience for iOS or Android
  • Preferred: experience supporting controller, mouse-and-keyboard, and touch input
